Where on is resume does it show that he is a proven defensive coordinator? Him being the DC at Jeanerette and Franklin High tells alot, especially seeing how unprepared the defense was. Is this just a case of the old Rooney Rule?

Daronte Jones was recommended by Aranda. Ed is trying to recapture the defensive success Aranda had here. The big difference is that LSU isn't using the kind of linebackers that are needed to run a LB focused scheme. Jones, Sampah, Webb, BJ all seem like the kind of LBs that should work for that system. But none of them are seeing the field consistently.

Sometimes you need to run a scheme that matches the players you have, not try to make players fit a scheme they aren't made for.

Eta: I don't think we'll find another Devin White. But we should have multiple players on the roster that can play up to a Queen or Phillips level.

We should hire a proven defensive mind like, say, Bo Pelini

Tell me you don’t know the difference between college and the NFL without telling me you don’t know the difference between college and the NFL

Daronte had no answers when they started attacking the middle of the field. Their WRs were just running decoy routes against our star DBs.

Chip Kelly’s plan was to attack our LBa and it worked to perfection.

It’s like les with oc’s. O clashed with aranda. Then he hires bo and daronte. Both defenses look eerily similar. O is dictating the defense.

Ed can’t come to his own conclusions is what I gather. Has to go ask Pete Carroll, Aranda, Brady for who to hire. You’d think a coach that follows the sport would know multiple guys off the top of his head that he’d want to work with

I thought he had a solid first quarter. After chip made adjustments it was downhill from there.

Unless you can pull every LB and safety off the field I don’t know what you want Jones to do. You have to have at least a couple of players in those positions and we have none. Scheme wasn’t the issue last night.

People act like NFL teams don’t hire NFL assistants to be DCs.

Our DC was recommended by Aranda and our OC was recommended by Joe Brady. Our HC can’t make his own decisions.

Well let’s pretend that u are n a regional vp type role and the ceo says two key stores are struggling and it must be fixed this year and u go hire two people who haven’t run a store. Kinda risky

You can make a pretty good case that this is related to race because it was widely reported that Orgeron was going to hire a black coordinator. That limits the pool of coaches significantly.

But, even if you ignore that, Jones wasn't a good hire on paper. It was alarming when, after being hired, he made the statement that scheme wasn't important.

Instead, his approach was to simplify things so that players were so comfortable that they could play fast. Comparing that goal to what we saw is pretty strong evidence that Jones' lack of experience as a coordinator is playing a large part in our problems.

People always argue about scheme and football knowledge a guy has. Crowton was a great example. Some said he was an elite mind.

But, it doesn't matter if you can't take the knowledge and implement the desired scheme. That's what I think Brady did for Ensminger. He broke everything down in way that was successfully implemented in a single offseason. The WRs, QBs and RBs understood the system to such a great degree that we were always a step or two ahead of our competition because we could adjust on the fly.

When players are looking at each other for answers before the ball is snapped you are done before you start.

Jones is probably a very good position coach. Obviously, that's very different than running the show.

Something that no one has mentioned is that we are still trying to run a 4-3 base.
