Hey the world may be in shambles, both domestically and abroad, but at least we don't have a mean tweeter in office. We may have a literal tone deaf whore as VP, but at least we can hang our hats on the fact that Donald Trump is out of office.

Withdrawing was always going to be a shite show.

You can't analyze the withdrawal while ignoring the reasons we got into the conflict. It does a disservice to an incredibly complex issue.

I think withdrawing is a mistake and one that was always going to end up like this. The Afghan army was always going to fall (very few believed in the 'cause' because Afghanistan is a coalition of disparate tribes with very little in common) without US backing.

I blame Trump for negotiating a withdrawal with the Taliban and I blame Biden for honoring the withdrawal. The Afghan army wasn't even involved in the 2020 Doha Agreement for goodness sake.

I blame every US president rather than one individual for this withdrawal. Trump also had control for 4 years and was the one who brokered the deal to withdraw in the first place (and everyone conveniently ignores this). If we want to examine 20 years of foreign policy failure, you can't really ignore the administration that brokered a deal with the Taliban ;)

I think Biden's biggest mistake isn't the withdrawal but the fact that we're withdrawing in the first place. He gave in to political cowardice when anyone on the ground would tell you that the Afghan army has no loyalty to the cause or America.

I’ll help. Here are a few topics to discuss

1. Russia - Trump was investigated as a Russian asset. But it was Biden who stopped the US oil/energy independence and opened Pipelines for Russia…if Trump had done this, would you have remained silent?

2. Covid - the Delta variant is raging, hospitals reaching capacity! You blamed Trump as ignoring Science (even though he did everything Fauci advised him), if Trump had an open border policy…busing/flying over 1MM unvaccinated people all over the country, spreading the virus, would you remain silent?

3. Afghanistan - after 20 years in AFG (nation building), Biden lost it all in 10 days. He ignored Military and civilian intelligence on withdrawal Bc of his Stubbornness and Self righteous foreign policy maker…why are you silent? Had Trump fumbled AFG away like this, what would your reaction be?

They want to bring down the US and make way for a new system. Chaos and destruction is just what they wanted so they can "build back better".

Explain what, exactly? I'm glad we are getting out of there finally. It was going to be chaotic no matter when this occurred, and the Taliban were always going to go against their promises. If we kept waiting for them to adhere to some terms of agreement before leaving, we would never leave.

It was time to finally rip the bandaid off and get our people out of there.

For fulfilling the treaty trump and Pompeo made with the Taliban? If I recall correctly, trump promised to remove all our troops from Afghanistan by May 1.

Now, I don't necessarily agree with Biden complying with trump's stupidity. But it's clear that no matter what year this might have been, 2021, 2030, 2050, whatever, Afghanistan would have quickly reverted back to Taliban control. Why? BECAUSE THE MAJORITY OF AFGHAN MEN APPROVE OF THE TALIBAN'S RELIGIOUS DOGMA. In the end, this collapse is on Afghans, themselves, and in the end only they will change their own society.

Remember, also, that we invaded Afghanistan to rid that country of Al Qaeda, not to rebuild it. It's hilarious to me that trumpians in this country are suddenly in love with democracy for Afghans while they seek to diminish it at home. Or that any amount of money would have been justified.
