Did three tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan, saw first hand how the ORA / TRA reports were bullshite and we threw money at problems one year at a time so Battalion Command and up could have successful metrics.

Don't even get me started on contractors.

Betrayed? In 2007 I felt betrayed once I knew what the game was. Made the decision to stay in and do the best I could to help my Soldiers navigate the insane bureaucracy and make my corner of the Army a little better.

As shitty as watching all this goes down is, there is also a sense of validation because now the whole world gets to see what those of us on the ground knew all along.

Check the tapes, every GO that said we were turning the corner and making progress, every BN and BDE commander that hyped up their one year as an amazing success, and every politician that believed what they wanted to believe about the wars owns this.

I’m sure everyone had a different experience so I’m not arguing at all with you. I was a G-4 in ‘07 in Balad. I worked with maintenance contractors every day and by and large, they worked hard and quite frankly put up with a lot of BS from command changing directions and priorities. Without contractors there is no way that base could have operated given the size and scope.
