I'm not trying to politicize his death, but this dude did anything to give his life for his country.

He was killed by his own men, and his "country" lied about it. Some sacrifice.....

Dude was a hero, and a much better man than I will ever be, but the narrative that he died for his country is utter bullshite.

Eh, it depends on how broadly you want to define it.

If he had never chosen to "serve his country," he wouldn't have been in the middle of ratphuck Afghanistan to begin with to get killed by his own guys.

Even further, if you are arguing he wasn't "serving his country" because being in Afghanistan in the first place was dumb, well, you are entitled to your opinion on that but I'm fine with saying "he served his country" even if at the same time I may think the overall mission was dumb or didn't actually serve American interests. Mainly, because I'm not an a-hole about such things, we don't need to bring it up when talking about HIS intentions.

I've seen some absurd things on this board, this may top all of em.

How he died and who shot him couldn't possibly have less to do with his intentions and being out there. It doesn't lessen or cheapen anything he did or stood for, why the hell would anyone think it does is something I can't even grasp.

Ummm, that's exactly what he did. Regardless of who he was shot by. It's not like he was killed on a vacation trip to the Middle East.

I mean seriously, WTF?

He was in a warzone serving for the US military and lost his life. He was obviously more than willing to give up his life for this country considering the fact that he was there in the first place.

The fact that he was shot by an M16 instead of an AK47 has no bearing on whether or not he gave his life for this country.

When soldiers are killed in training exercises or other accidents they gave their life for this country too. Anyone who feels the need to distinguish based on how someone died or take anything away from Tillman's death is pathetic.
