Giants are friendly, go right up to them and they drop all sorts of rare armor and weapons.

. I haven't played Skyrim in over a year, and can't remember much, so I'm not much help with advice. Enjoy it, it's a blast. I wish I could play it for the first time again.
I will say, I liked using one-handed weapons, just because they're quicker. Not certain it was a good strategy. I'm not the best at it.

Ran into a giant earlier. With one hit I was sent 500 feet into the air at least. The game reset before I fell back to the ground. And yeah I'm using a mace right now (can't find a good sword) and a flame spell with my other hand
