Coming to St. Simons the weekend of 10/17 for a wedding. Looking for a place to stay that sleeps 7/8 and near all the restaurants, shops, etc. Don't want to break the bank cause I really don't even want to be there. Any suggestions?

Days Inn.

You are welcome.

There is a condo complex on the other side of Redfern Village. Very easy to get a rental or two there and within walking distance of some great shopping for the women folk and restaurants and bars for the guys. There check out Bubba Garcia's for some dirty mexican and good bar scene now that they have an upstairs bar. Young crowd there. Gnat's Landing is under new ownership and has had a complete overhaul. Usually a live band on the weekends and good food. Good place to watch football. A little bit older crowd than Bubba's. Catch 228 is also there and is a good seafood restaurant wuth a good bar as well.

Delaney's is the best restauarant on the island. Call TODAY and you MIGHT get a reservation for that weekend. The Ocean Lodge has a great rooftop restaurant with a fantastic view. Georgia Sea Grille is in the Village (at the Pier, NOT Rredfern Village) with probably the best seafood on the island. Also, you need to at least get a drink at Coastal Kitchen which is at the marina when you come on to the island. The food is good there as well.

Forgot about Coastal Kitchen. Love that place. Also, it's an excellent, excellent brunch place. It's out on the causeway.

Hinesville, you really think it's that hard to get reservations @ Delaney's. It might used to have been but I think the last two times I went, we called the day ahead of time. Delaney's entrees average about $30 FWIW.

I should have said a decent reservation. You can get one for like 6:00 or 9:30. But now that I think about it, it's not a holiday weekend and not during the summer, so they shouldn't have too much trouble getting a decent reservation.

I already have my reservations for the WLOCP.

Found a place to sleep called Ocean Walk. Eating at the rehearsal dinner Friday night and the Reception Saturday night. Skipping the wedding to watch the game. I need to know the best bar to hang out and watch that's near my room.

What do you look for in a bar. There are some sketchy arse bars down in the village that are perfectly fine but they might have more of a blue collar vibe. Id advise going to redfern and starting out at gnats (uga crowd) and then heading over to bubbas (some people hate it but this is wedding season and you can find some talent there.)

Cold beer and a big screen playing the UGA game. That's really all I care about. I will hang there until the game is over and then go find my hot wife at the wedding reception.

Ok. IMHO, your options are:

1. Gnats landing, must drive or taxi to get there but it's generally the uga place around

2. Village inn and pub- probably quiet but good stuff there and nice setting

2. King&Prince resort- I was at a wedding and the reception was at k%p and I spent a lot of the time watching games at their bar. Don't know about beer but the mixed drinks were really good. Will do this again. Walkable

3. Murphy's- old school bar. Smoke filled. Older and younger mix. Should be close

4. If your brave, rafters is cheap and dirty. Might be prostitutes there . This place and Murphy's are dive bars. The Brunswick blue collar workers come to rafters though mad Murphy's is ssi people at least. Should be close. Might not be in.

FWIW- I go to gnats, bubbas or Murphy's use if I'm going out but haven't had any desire to do so for awhile.

Went to Murphy's many, many moons ago. I enjoyed that evening. Probably not my pick this time.

Gnats sounds like a good choice.

Just go to Gnats. It's owned by a UGA alum.
