This.

But don't hold that TD at the end of the 1st half vs. TN against him.

That was a blown coverage by a safety that is no longer on the team.

He was in position but instead of making the play he was looking for someone to help him.

Can't defend Aaron Davis on that play.

Instead of insulting me, maybe you could re-assure me with a list of defensive backs that Georgia can even put on the field.

Depth seems extremely thin there.

He will be flagged for excessive celebration after each shoe string tackle.

Post video of the play so we can break it down.

While that ship has sailed, I'm pretty sure him playing D would be a net + for the team. As you said we've got guys who can catch, plus our RB's. DB is where the pain is right now...and MM could shore that up nicely.

He's the only receiver we have that's shown the athletic capacity to get separation from a top-flight corner.

He might be the most explosive, but I beg to differ that he's the only receiver who can make big plays. Look at a few folks from last season who are still playing.

Chris Conley - 45 catches, 651 yards, 14.5 per catch, long of 60 yards
Michael Bennett - 41 catches, 538 yards, 13.1 ypc, long of 50 yards
Reggie Davis - 11 catches, 257 yards, 23 ypc, long of 98 yards

Scott-Wesley in 5 games had 16 catches for 311 yards, 19.4 ypc, long of 62 yards.

What's different about this season? Why aren't Conley, Bennett, and Davis doing the same thing? (And Rome for that matter?)

Because our quarterback sucks this year.

Getting Scott-Wesley and Mitchell back will no doubt help the team, but Mason will continue to be what he is.

No one else on this team can get constant separation against top flight SEC corners as WG said. Mason desperately needs a receiver to get that separation, unlike Murray who could "throw receivers open." I dont get whats so hard to understand about that.

Its talking-head bullshite that doesn't actually mean anything.

There's nothing there to understand.

What receivers this year have been able to get open when they are thrown anything other than a screen pass?

Pretty obvious, while he cant throw very well he definitely cant throw to people who are well covered

Murray could complete throws into tight coverage that Mason cannot.

In fact I can only recall one pass this year Mason completed into tight coverage and that was a back shoulder throw to Bennet in the Clemson game.

Are you going to teach me about football? Specifically, I could use some pointers from you about the subtleties of the whole qb/receiver relationship and this "getting separation" concept. I have to go to bed now and get up really early, have to meet Colin Powell at the CNN center early in the morning and go over some security stuff.

I look forward to reading your lessons around 9:30ish in the AM.

No bullshite.

That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about someone who can stick his foot in the ground on the post pattern and leave an all-SEC corner behind in man coverage.

Mitchell is the only receiver we have that has shown the ability to do that.

Conley, Bennett, and Davis couldn't get separation from Cameron Sutton. They don't have a chance against Vernon Hargreaves.

Just out of curiosity.... does anyone know how many CB or "athlete" recruits we've pulled in the last 5 years or so to offense vs defense?

Just wondering if we have a tendency to try and move talent that would be productive on defense to offense...particularly when we start talking about Samuel, JJ and Mitchell.

Here's the data from Rivals sorted by position and pasted here. I will let you count them. The issue is not so much the number (though we didn't take any "DB's" in 2012) but rather attrition and productivity.
