I friend of mine played TE for Bama back in the mid 90s, he sent out a msg mourning the loss of PL too. Maybe TE's are their own little fraternity amongst all players.

Does he need a reason?

Well yeah. You don't physically put something around your arm without a reason, especially something that honors someone that passed away.

I don't think Tuscaloosa's comment was out of line, I'd like to know why myself, even if it's just that Vogler respected Lutz.

Her is a little more about it.
quote:

The fifth-year senior Alabama tight end has been wearing a blue and orange bracelet for months to honor his close friend Philip Lutzenkirchen, the former Auburn tight end who died in a June car crash.
Vogler and Lutzenkirchen grew close during the latter part of their respective high school careers, with Vogler in Columbus, Georgia, and Lutzenkirchen in Marietta.
One year ahead of Vogler, Lutzenkirchen was Vogler's host on an official visit to Auburn in 2009. Even though Vogler ended up at Alabama, they remained close and kept in touch with each other.

I have always said, the players have much more class than the fans.

I think 90% of a fanbase has plenty of class, they just don't get the platform to show it that the players do. And it's the 10% that you always hear from on the radio and doing stupid things like poisoning trees. Auburn's response to the Tuscaloosa tornado is a great example how the majority of fanbases are perfectly normal with normal and sane human emotions towards football.

Class move. No doubt. It is weird because we are spectators of this gladiatorial sport and it is for our entertainment. We (for the most part) do not personally know these young men but they know each other and have relationships. I think Vogler honoring Lutz puts this at the forefront much like Sims honoring the AU fan with cancer. Good stuff that is unfortunately overlooked for the horror stories such as Updy_ _ .
