I think UT's D is much better than SCe's but that's neither here nor there.

IMO, Gurley is the best player in the country. We're not gonna stop him, just hope to somewhat contain him. If UT could hold you guys to 5 or 6 YPC, that would be great.

Getting UGA in 3rd and 7 type situations would be ideal because I really like how our DBs match with their WRs.

I think you have to focus on the run game first...load the box and stick the DB's on man coverage...force Mason to beat you with his arm. Of course...that is what South Carolina tried to do, and they got burned by it.

Everyone has loaded the box against Mason since Murray got hurt. Just like the end of last year, we're really thin at WR.

Game comes down to protecting Worley IMO. USCe gave Thompson enough time to expose our secondary.

If Worley has time to throw, UT can win. But you guys struggled with that against OU, and you're on the road again. I think Dawgs win, but closer than I'd like.

That's a fair analysis.

I do think our WRs can do some damage against yall but it doesn't matter if we can't keep Worley upright.

Malone, North, Howard... We're gonna need help from our front seven for sure.

It's going to help having him back.

Everybody doesn't have AJ Johnson (11 tackles/2.0 TFLs, blocked field goal @OU) at and JRM (9 tackles and recovered a fumble @OU) at LB. AJ's having an even better senior season than anyone could've imagined and the same goes for true sophomore Jalen Reeves-Maybin who has really showed out in his first year as a starter. Both are all over the field even against OU.

At DE Derek Barnett is already a beast (OU held him all night - they had to and their OL outweighed our DL by a significant amount; actually they held several players on our DLINE to the point where one reporter said that we should've held more often since the refs just weren't calling holding that game on either team but several reporters remarked on it, including PFort who is top notch and not a homer though he does cover the Vol beat for one of the pay sites (he was careful to say that despite the holding he wasn't sure it really matter much if that gives you any idea about his nature - he's a cautious guy and his recruiting info. is more spot on that it has any right being). FWIW, he said we should've held more but there were also several others I respect that highlighted all the blatant holding and I honestly can't express how few sportswriters I respect and even a few with no ties to us at all mentioned the amount of holding, especially on Barnett.

At DT Jordan Williams has been an absolute surprise. He's been good all year and had three tackles including 2-yard sack at #4/3 Oklahoma.

Our DL was beating their OL a LOT and despite the holding we got a lot of pressure and a few sacks. Our D/DL also held OU to 3-for-12 (.250) on third down, the lowest third down conversion percentage for a Sooner team at home since going 4-for-17 (.236) against Oklahoma State in 2009. And if you think that's a one game thing for us, it's not we're 3rd in the nation overall and have consistently been great on 3rd (and 4th down) this year.

Even so, Gurley will get some yards but if our D shows up at all I also believe we can contain him a great deal more than you might think.

What kinds of numbers are you thinking for containing Gurley?

5 YPC would be a win for the UT defense imo.

I agree and would absolutely take that all day.

ETA: Porter, I realize you're probably shocked we're talking up our defense but trust me it's far more shocking to us that we actually have a defense that can do anything at all let alone one that's decent and even good at a few aspects of the game.

No worries. Just curious what your version of contain was.

I would say that if you could keep him less than 150 yards and around a 5 ypc average...it would be considered a success.

Gurley is a damned beast and while others might wanna deny just how good he is I'm not one. I have nothing but respect for him as a player (well except for that headbutt thing) and have long thought he's one of the best to come around in a long time. It would be insane, imo, to think he won't get yards and even a few big runs, and that's even factoring in one of the best run-stopping LBs in AJ.

Love this:

@GentryEstes247: Mark Richt says of UT's A.J. Johnson with a smile, "I thought he should have turned pro last year. I don't why he's back, but he's back."

Regarding RB Derrell Scott:

JONES: Scott will make the trip and he'll help us. As of right now, Saulsberry will make the trip as well.

Which is where I would expect to see play action, slants, and screens to open up the run game. The thing with Mason is while he has yet to WOW anyone, he also has yet to turn it over

Good point, but I'm very confident for the first time in a looong time in our secondary. I'm pretty sure we are leading the SECE in pass defense by a large margin. This is not the same slow as molasses type of VOLS defense that we've been trotting out for the past few years.

Man you all REALLY don't like your secondary.

Worley will be a Heisman contender by the time the game is over.

Keys to the game, imo.

Limiting Gurley
UT's OL must show improvement (and not just a little)
UT WR vs UGA DB

I still think UGA wins it, but not by 19 points.

How much depth do you guys have? It's a noon game, so if it's hot, attrition might be a factor.

Hopefully they get better. They will truly be tested this weekend. Hopefully they let them play man and we blitz like crazy.....if not take the over.

I like UT to cover as well.
