Chizik optimism was the worst optimism.

The worst.

Truth. Chizik could not close. And NEVER had a backup plan.

Goldman, Kearse, Watson, Beasely.... lotta coulda/woulda/shouldas in that game for auburn.
Never led for any of them except Kearse. I don't even remember Beasley at all from recruiting. No point crying over stuff that was not ours.

I remember waking up on signing day 2012 full of optimism only to have it all shot down besides Avery young.
You were gullable that day then. Most who follow AU recruiting knew it was going to be a long day for us. Heck Avery Young was a surprise. On NSD word was it would be UGA or Florida.

I told everyone it would be a bad day and was told I was melting down. The writing was on the wall.

How do you not remember Beasley? We pushed very hard for him. He was even listed as the #1 recruit in the nation by some BS recruiting site (cant remember which one). And unless people close to the situation were completely wrong, we were very much in it for Goldman,.... but don't let me contradict the great ellitor...
Either way, don't think people are crying, just thinking "what if"... no harm, no foul

We certainly led for Beasley. He may have committed then backed off. He was a legacy for God's sake and we didn't land him. We have missed on a lot of elite defensive recruits and people wonder why our defense has been bad since 2008.

Yes we were always in it for Goldman but there was never 1 single day that we led for him which was part of the point of my OP. Don't make this about me or try to claim I'm being elitist or ego driven. it's not about that for me and never is. I was simply reviewing facts on that class except Beasley.

That's 3 fold. Missing out on talent like you said, poor coaching in many but not all cases, and poor philosophy also played factors.

Who's crying?... Simply stating that those were guys AU heavily pursued and had shots at signing.

A couple of early posts were crying in this thread although it could have been sarcasm since I am horrible on picking that stuff up. Either way I don't see the point in reflecting on what might have been but I'll shut up now and not bother you guys who want to reflect.

To be fair however I did tweet this weekend that DeRunya Wilson was a beast and that it was a mistake AU did not offer him.

Didn't that have to do with him being set on playing basketball too?

Looking at our team under Barbee I think it's clear we could have used him.

No shite but Chizik wasn't going to allow him to play both sports. When is the last time Auburn had a two sport guy, specifically football and basketball?

I thought DeRunya was in the same year as Gus's first class not Chizik?

Just checked. He was in the class right after Gus was hired. We could have had him and really did not start talking to him til Gus was hired.

You're right. I still don't think Auburn is going to let a potential football star play basketball and risk getting injured or vice versa
