I was a contractor for NAWCAD (NAVAIR) at our last station at NAS Pax River. It was interesting, to say the least. All in all, though, it wasn't too bad as jobs go.

How about living in Beaufort and each commute the same distance? If your current job/company is the one you want for the rest of your career then stay and make it work. If you have family to help with the children then think seriously about staying in Savannah.
Ask at work if you can take your vacation around the kids days off from school. Then travel to Charleston for family time on those days.
