Very conflicted on how to feel this morning.

On one hand:
- Rice is no slouch (VTech, Louisville, and USCw lost to some cupcakes/lesser foes yesterday) winning is still winning.
-Aside from a long pass, the D played good enough to keep them out of the end zone.
- ToP: only 16 minutes and a 4 score lead is an interesting stat.
- bad field and losing speedy makes me want to think we relented a bit at the end for injuries sake. Maybe just wishful thinking.

In the other hand
- lots of drops
- run D looks like Arkie might rape us. I'm kinda thankful USCe got behind and had to throw to catch up.
- Rice isn't a bad team but the pure athleticism between the two should purely be 35 point difference. That was uninspired ball all around.

I come away with a couple of things to be optimistic about and a few more things to be pessimistic.

We should have won and did, but Rice was no cupcake. We held them to 10. Our guys also started out and played flat and I think a large part of it was the "Lamar" effect

Ding, ding, ding! 31 points last year for Rice. Missing so many on defense A&M still held a conference champ to 10 and beat 'em by 4 touchdowns. No cause for hand-wringing.

The dropped passes were bothersome (Hill was still 20/31: 64.5%), but I'm guessing the WRs will come out fired up next week ready to roll.

Honestly I think some are just spoiled after the first 2 games.

To me the injuries are the biggest concern. Hopefully the guys who need a break can take it against SMU and be ready to go for Arkansas.

What are y'alls thoughts on Kenny thus far?

My "evaluation" would be that he's really good at throwing strikes 25 yards and in. Much of that comes from being a baseball player, IMO.

I still think he needs to develop a better deep ball. In all 3 games, we've had receivers wide open down the field, and he's missed. I realize this is knit picking a kid that has played outstanding for us, but that's the main chink in the armor I've noticed thus far.

He had a damn good deep ball to Speedy in the Lamar game. That ball went about 50 yards in the air before it was caught.

Teams are going to start daring him to go over the top more and more, especially once SEC play starts and we face more athletic DBs. He's been pretty damn good overall though

That was a great throw. He definitely has the arm strength he's just not as accurate as he needs to be. I'm not worried about it

Not worried about it either. I'll take 20 yard strikes in this offense any day. Don't know why I need to criticize, but those throws will become more and more important down the road.

I'm just happy that we are back to the point where a 28 point win over a team that won its conference last year is disappointing.

I agree that Kenny's long ball needs work. He has missed badly on a few and there have been others he completed that had they been thrown better they would have been walk in TDs. Sometimes his ball flutters a bit which doesn't really help WRs catch it. Overall though its tough to to find much he hasn't done well.

It makes me mad at myself because I said I'd never be than fan when we were in the doldrums of the Fran era.

It is a bit embarrassing considering we are the state's main agricultural school.

It could be worse. SF's new stadium has major turf issues (I heard yesterday they've already installed THREE complete new turfs and they STILL have problems--they need the number to the College of Agriculture)

The only problem I have with kenny is that deep ball. But something tells me he hits one of our wr's in stride downfield this next weekend against smu.

Kenny, and I'm not criticizing, has a tendency to throw it over the middle a lot it seems like. He's killed teams thus far with it, and as a passer he's been much better than people expected, but I hope he can make adjustments because the better SEC teams are going to try taking that away and force him to throw over the defense or out near the sidelines/flat more because like a few of us noted already, his one pass that he throws that he hasn't been automatic with has been the deep ball.

You mean without a defender within 20 yards of the receiver?

You aren't talking about the first deep ball that was underthrown by 4 or 5 yards are you? It was caught but underthrown. Except for that one, just about every deep ball has been long that I have seen. The first 2 to RSJ against USCe. The first one for sure, the second one he was on the move and it was to the wrong shoulder.

Looks like he throws a deep ball kind of flat. Been a few deep throws overthrown in all the games.. Inside of 30 yards he is pretty much on target whether corner, crossing or stop routes.

Not going to panic much on Hill's deep throws or throwing over the middle. He threw a really nice deep ball to RSJ on the sideline that should have been caught. The TD pass to Reynolds with the comeback "Mike Evans special" was nice. Remember last year as well he had that great throw to JaQuay on his first series ever.

He needs a bit of polish but the kid has still only started 3 games. The most impressive thing to me by far on Kenny is he has 117 throws for 11 TD's and NO INT's. If he can just not turn the ball over it makes us really tough to beat. As much as I loved Johnny he had some turnovers last year when he was trying to improvise and force things that really hurt us. Kenny doesn't really force anything and that is very rare for a young QB. Just look at Kyle Allen who has a better pure arm but already has 2 picks in limited action because of throwing into coverage.
