Jefferson, a slave-owner himself and primary author of the Constitution, predicted eventual black liberation and citizenship. He considered it a necessary development for America's survival.

Smart man.

Yes. In fact, I think they'd rewrite it to make the separation even clearer and stronger.

So they didn't use religion at state events, nor did they pray, nor did they use religious symbolism or imagery in the government?

So Stonehog was posting. Gotcha.

Explains the 12 pages.

Now. How are going to get the crosses removed from all the markers at Arlington National Cemetery?

I was curious if we'd have a thread on this. The whole thing irks me. If a team decides they wish to honor their friends that have passed, it is no-ones business about how they go about honoring their friends.

It's some true beta shite that the AD caved and wouldn't support his team out of fear over litigation. stAte already changed their mascot over fear of litigation.

I just can't imagine how miserable and putrid a person's life must be to make this an issue. 2 kids are dead, the team should be allowed to pay tribute how they choose to, it's got absolutely nothing to do with anything or anybody else.

It's infuriating isn't it?

Well, sure they did. However, not everyone felt that they should, just as many people realized that slavery was wrong.

The over-riding thought of the time, however, was that there should not be a state religion. Objections to a government that incorporated an official religion was the reason for the formation of the United States, after all.

So where our thought patterns diverge is that you think that a football team that plays for a state university using a Christian icon to memorialize some people who have passed is the same thing as the state having an official religion and I don't.
