You're right! I agree! It SHOULDN'T. But like I said above UGA is unique in that regard. As far as SC, Clemson is the only possible option it could be, your fans dont' really have any fodder for discussion for others? Maybe UGA? But still nah, it hasn't even been competitive but for a decade. Clemson goes back a century. UGA has 3 schools that we have longstanding, 100 years of history and tradition with. It should also be noted SC was dependent for a while. UGA has had these 2 other SEC rivals since the 30s, in addition to our in state rival. The situations are a little different.

whatever you say, but you're still wrong. I'll ask you the same thing I asked chg, WHY is UF our biggest rival? Give me actual reasons. And again, "they beat us the last 2 decades" doesn't count. I mean that can be your reason if you want, but that's a shitty reason.

We've argued about this at least twice before. Neither time did I say

ok, then I have nothing to go on from your side of the argument other than that you say so.
I can easily find posts I've made with actual reasons why it's tech.

Yes, yes... Georgia is special... Everyone hates Georgia. Have you ever thought it might be you and not them? I mean look at your "100 year rivalries"... Only GT is a mutual #1 rival. Auburn hates Alabama more than they hate you. Florida hates FSU more than they hate you. You're only special in your own minds, maybe?
GT is your rival... with some ancillary hatred thrown in there to pump up your chests. I always viewed it like a QB battle. If you have more than one rival, maybe you don't have any rivalry?

You're worse than a woman sometimes.
Same exact discussion notes for today.

I think the difference here is that you've stated multiple times that who UGA's rival is, to a particular fan, is different generationally, geographically or based on the status of that rival's current program strength... none of that should affect who "you" think your rival is. Gamecock fans in NC, GA and FL don't think the teams in those respective states supplant Clemson, ever. A Clemson fan in Timbuktu is going to blame malaria on Gamecocks. A Carolina fan in Canada is going to be ever so slightly miffed at the mere sight of the color orange. It just is, no matter when or where...
Exactly.
His generation thinks it's GT so he says GT b/c it was most relative to him during his formative years.
New generation thinks UF. I've still never heard a UGA fan my age EVER place GT over UF. Apparently, though, none of the people I know count b/c they run contrary to WG's shaky point. Which is odd b/c he basically admits the point I'm trying to make, which is that the new generation doesn't place an emphasis on the GT game.
Just really subpar logic all around from the graduates of the "Southern Ivy" .

I've been to a UGa/GT game in Athens (00?), and I've been to a UGa/UF game in Jax (the year Meyer ran train after the end zone stunt. '08?). From a purely outsider's perspective (NOT TO BE TAKEN DEFINITIVELY, AT ALL), it appeared that UF was the bigger deal.
Curiously enough, my best friend who went to UGa (my host for both games) hated LSU more than anyone else. Go figure.

nah, thanks. Our rivalry card is full.
There's some comedy gold in this thread though.....

as long as Spurrier is there. He's got our number.

Spurrier won't be there much longer.

They are a rival.
SC is Georgia's 4th biggest rival behind Fla, Auburn, and Tech.
Unfortunately, Georgia is their 2nd biggest rival, making it a more important rivalry game for them than Georgia.
Well done CNB

We have one rival in Clemson. No other school really compares. UGA is just a very important division game.

now it's a mad house

Every SEC team is our rival plus Tech. Vanderbilt is our rival. No seriously, frick Vandy.

SC is a rival to UGA and they made that clear in 2005 when they hired The Old Ballsack. All the locals were yelling and screaming that he has our number. No one has gotten that message through to Mark Goff/Richt but they are. They hate us along the same lines as Clemson. SC could go 2-10 and if they beat UGA and Clemsucks they would give the coach another chance. They play us like a rival and we need to do the same.
WG coming back to sanity replying to the guy above and he is correct. A 2-10 Spurrier would fire himself and save us the trouble.
quote:
why don't you post that question on the SC board and see if they agree. Spoiler: they don't.
I actually found this insightful

Nice compilation. You can really get a feel for their hatred towards us.
I don't consider them a rival; they would have to beat us more often for it to be considered a rivalry. 4 out of the last 5 speaks for itself.

It really does depend on where you live. I have a lot of UGA friends where I am, so there's a lot of shite-talking that occurs. I particularly enjoy beating UGA fans because the sense of superiority they feel about, well, damn near everything. Much like Clemson, until they figure out the root cause of this trend of losses, they won't be able to turn the tide. It's not just "Spurrier has our number." No, there's something much deeper and more systemic than that. Clemson can't admit it, and UGA can't admit it, either.
The UGA/USC game is intense for a host of reasons, but not the least of which being when it is played. It sets the tone for the rest of the season. This year, for us, it would have spelled doom for the goals of the season to lose. Same if UGA had lost last year.
In terms of "rivalry," to me, it's still
Clemson
UNC
UGA
everyone else.
