The offense we will operate from will dink and dunk to wear defenses down and if we can get 70+ snaps against SEC teams we have chance to wear their DL/LBs down....then open up run game against a tired defense.

And I think one of the most important aspects of the game these days is being unpredictable. In this offense they have to watch the corners, the inside and the deep threat.

We haven't had that for a while.

I think the announcers were saying this, but didn't emu get a 1st down on the very first play of the game?

I actually missed the beginning, but I didn't see a First Down until well into the second quarter.

Nah, the QB got 9 1/2 yards, then they got stuffed, then a false start, then UF stopped them on 3rd down.

Maybe not in that order, but I think thats what happened.

You don't win games by throwing bombs...oh it is entertaining and all. Against EMU we could have..but we were trying to do more than just win...we need a lot of game reps for young players and even a few older ones. Goal met.

Since you put it that way, you guys are right. With the offensive play we've had for the last 4 years, it makes sense to do the basics against an inferior team. Work on the basics and build on top if it. They got a lot of confidence from it. Hopefully, they'll be even better when they start SEC play next week. I'm still stoked to under the lights with them next week.

Finch...another thought about our offense yesterday...while we may have settled for FG on our opening possession...we converted two fourth downs along the way and on the last set of downs...pressure got to Driskel slightly and he overthrew Fullwood on second down.after Treon came in for 1 snap and we didn't gain anything and then Driskel missed on third down.

The game was never in doubt....but I loved the entire team effort and special teams play was awesome. When you can flip the field with punts or returns...it paves the way for easier scores and opens up playbook....any coach will tell you that the playbook is bigger when you start near midfield rather than your own 20 yd line.

Special teams will end up winning us a tight game or two this year...mark my words.

While I like that we converted two fourth downs. I don't like the idea we had to go for it on 4th down.

If we hadn't gone for it on fourth down we would have punted on the first drive and the negagators would have been out in full force. There's no winning for boom it appears.

I feel the same way and I'm one of the staunchest critics of Muschamp -- having to go for it on Third is no big deal, Oregon consistently goes for it on Fourth and has to respond to Fourth down just like any other team.

You can't put up 65 points and then get bitched at for your 3rd Down proficiency.

I'm completely fine with fourth down attempts as long as they're reasonable, and most were that day. 50% ain't great but it ain't bad, either. Especially since our second string was on the field for a while.

Just remember that once you are at your opponents 40 yd line then going for it on fourth down & short is not uncommon if the game isn't too close and opponent isn't Godzilla.
What makes it MUCH easier to go for 4th and short is that our defense is salty as hell.
If you watch replay of the game closely...EMU kept a lot of folks in the box trying to prevent us from pounding the ball on them...most of our runs were slight of hand options where the qb gives or goes. Once the defense was tired it made running easier...but by then we had a lot of subs in the game.

I used to defend our fans about attendance. I will not any longer. The section under the club in the North end zone was so empty it was pathetic. The upper end zones were sparsely populated and there were spots of empty seats in the alumni section.

It was very disappointing no matter what excuse considered. Yeah, threat of rain and lightening, yeah, it was hot, yeah, it was EMU...

I can't believe folks didn't want to come see the new offense in person and get the stadium rocking.

Seats are still available for UK too.

Maybe we do have the worst fans in the SEC.

I know there was decisions about Student section not selling out but it was the most full section well into the game. The SE upperdeck area was completely empty as well.

Maybe 65 points will get all the bandwagons out.

Does the board feel our offense showed too much of it's hand this early. To me it didn't seem that Roper or Boom held anything back. In the past we seemed to always keep the bigger teams guessing and never really saw their real plays until Tennessee.

The QB run package was held back. That will be a huge part of UFs offense moving forward. Driskel should be really good in the read option.

In the past years under Weis and Pease, there has been "vanilla" offenses in the first few games, but I did not see anything extra from the offense against the rest of the year.

No. I don't think spread offenses can be effective holding back.

Roper and JD did exactly what they needed to do to move the ball. The CBs and Safety's played very deep. I didn't see press coverage at all. They played 10-12 yards off the ball. JD and the receivers probably have reads on that and just used the short passing game as an extension of the running game.

I've seen some criticisms of JD. He completed 69% of his passes. He only had a handful a bad throws all day and was benched at the end of the third quarter. If anything, he didn't take many shots down field because of the depth of the secondary. He was close to landing that long bomb in the end zone but Q couldn't quite hold on after an excellent effort.

I was pleased over all with JD. 69% may not sound great when most were short passes but he was on the money with those. When the secondary moves in to cut that off they go to double move deeper routes to get over the top. It's a work in progress. You could tell that they were ready to set them up for longer passes but EMU just played soft to keep big plays at a minimum.

2 or 3 of JD's long passes resulted in PI penalties too. I think only one was actually caught.

Treon looked great because EMU didn't think we'd go deep being up so big. Well, they were wrong.

I brought that up during the game -- two of them were taken away and were sure either touchdowns or very close to touchdowns if not for the interference.

Driskel looked way better, had maybe two "bad" passes all game that were still relatively safe.

I liked what I saw from him, and can't wait to see more going forward.

I know one thing; We cannot afford any more injuries on the OL. I hope Harrison comes back for Bama, because we're going to need him to have a chance in that game.

We've got so many running backs. And they are all excellent.
