Gary 'I don't give scholarships to kickers' Pinkel

until this year that is, let's hope it pays off, if the kid fails then he'll say "I was right all along, no need to recruit kickers".

Remember Jimmy Olsen or was it Ressell, once he missed the extra point that broke the streak Wolfert started, he became a missaholic. Every time he made one and they thought he was back it was a mirage.

Maybe some day we'll have enough money to hire a kicking coach, until then maybe adopt more of a go for it attitude.

It's the rules that prevent this. Years ago the NCAA limited the number of coaches schools could have and that cut wound up meaning that kicking coaches were pretty much out of the game. That's why there's coaches doing double duty (e.g OC/Special Teams coach and whatever dual coaching roles) with kickers even though kicking is so specialized. I don't know of any school willing to give up a TE or WR coach for a kicking coach so coaches are forced to work double duty in areas they have to learn on the fly.

That said, are you serious that Pinkel doesn't give kickers schollys? That is shocking to me.

We may have had one under GP and have one coming in with the next class. A Tennessee kid no less.

That's very, very good. Wilhoit trains HS (and younger) kickers in the state and runs camps as well - he was supertar as a Vol and his camps and the tutelage he offers is really paying off. We may just become the kicking capital of the South East in terms of producing good HS kicking prospects.

If he's in Franklin then it's very likely he's one of James Wilhoit's kids so I'll go ahead and tell ya you'll very likely be getting a good prospect.

EDIT - Yep he's definitely one of his - just confirmed.

Bagget is tough to watch. He has been instilled with about as much confidence as you can give a kicker and it still doesn't matter. It's one thing if he struggles for a bit and then pulls out of it, but he's good for a shank every 3 kicks or so for the last 3 years sooooo.......
