This. I have the strangest feeling that we are going to look like shite on Saturday. Hope I am wrong.
I think so too, but I also think this is because we will be testing the QBs. If we lined it up and ran the ball down their throats, it could get ugly, but since we are having a QB battle right now, that likely won't be the case.

Well I tried over reacting before the season to tell you guys. But people just wanted to see who left and not see who returned...

They can still outscore a lot of folks. Lets look at the evidence instead of your hopes and dreams.

QB - Kenny Hill will most likely win it. Go look up tape on him. He was efficient as a passer and great with his legs. Will do very well in this offense. Backup QB is a true freshman but a phenom in the making as well.

OLINE - very solid. I could usually say one of the best in the SEC, but the SEC is loaded with talented vet Olines this year (USCe, AU, LSU).

RBs - 2 very lalented ones. A big bruiser back in Carson and a smaller shifty back in Trey Williams. They have another back who is at least SEC-decent.

WRs - one of the best groups in the SEC. Noil, RSJ, Kennedy.

TE - Nice blocking TE in Cam Clear who is suppose to have an expanded role this year.

So no Johnny Football and Evans but still plenty of talent and a coach that knows how to use them.

One thing the A&M game proved to me is that we are no longer in a conference where we can say it doesn't matter who the QB is. We have to get production out of that position if we want to win a title. This isn't 2008 or 2011. A team has to put up points in addition to playing great defense.

Yep. It's why I think Coker ultimately wins the job. Sims can't stretch the field consistently, and they'll come a time where someone has to do that in the fourth quarter to win a game.

According to Saban on Hey Coach, we're gonna be vanilla tomorrow. I hate that stupid shite. Run the O full power. Make them stop it. Who cares if everyone gets tape on it? Make them stop it.

quote:

The spread offenses are fun to watch and at times, make the pro-style seem archaic and slow. That said, a good DL is a key to stopping them. An elite pass rush disrupts the timing and forces plays to go off script.

I still prefer a great defensive battle, but these high scoring games are a different kind of exciting.

Oh, also you guys...

I hope Da'Shawn Hand watched Myles Garrett last night. Hand probably won't play quite as much, but I think Hand should be a little pissed that some people thought Garrett jumped him near the end of the recruiting process. He had a solid game, I'd like to see Hand get a sack tomorrow.

I think we might be overreacting on A&M a bit. I never thought they would fall off the face of the earth. Sumlin is a great offensive coach. He's going to put up points. But USCe absolutely sucked. Their defense was god-awful, and I suspect their offense is going to really struggle this year. I know they had some players injured/out, but really, their offense hasn't been great since Spurrier has been there. I don't know, maybe all that golf he was bragging about hasn't helped.

But there is nothing preventing A&M from doing that to us if we do what we did in the past and not get good pressure and line up off the WRs.

This may be the last year Saban plays a Safety at Star. You can't trust 99% of CFB Safeties to play man against receivers, and we're going to have to play physical man all game against teams like A&M and get pressure if we're gonna slow them down. Offenses like A&M will tear apart even the complex zones, and it's easier for DBs to know their man assignment vs HUNH than zone.

If USC could play defense. Their defense looked liked ND's against us in the BCS. Let players get wide open, huge wholes for the RB to run through because USC players looked lost, and could not tackle in the open field at all. Plus when the OBC coach tried to speed it up it only helped a&m at that point.

this to all the idiots on the rant that called me out because I have said since the spring USC will be over rated coming into the season.

Lorenzo Ward had a terrible gameplan and South Carolina was still living off of the past few seasons. SC also should invest in a new strength and conditioning coach because they've been out of shape for 2 consecutive season openers.

Vanilla offense? I think that's bullshite too. I didnt wait all offseason for this opening game to see that. Just let them play it out full force and split the snaps 50/50 in the game.

I'm sick of hearing about the QB battle.

I agree. We have so much talent, no reason to handicap them to keep things secret or so you don't hurt your friend's feelings. Make them stop the offense. Let Coop run wild. Feed Howard. Throw it to Drake.

Go crazy. Seriously, how much settling in does Saban think they're gonna need? WVU's D was arse last year.

I've got no problem throwing some screens and short passes and letting the playmakers make plays in space, but I'd like to see a few shots down the field too. Don't hide anything or baby anyone. Make both QBs show you what they can do, and make the defense stop it.

You worry to much...Bama D is going to be a brought spot... we will struggle where we all think we will, the passing game.

I actually think we won't struggle to pass the ball. Too much talent, and I think our pass pro will be improved. Kelly/Shep leave a bit to be desired when it comes to being powerful run blockers, but they excel in pass pro. C-Rob is gonna have some bumps, but his ability is unquestionable.

Kiffin will draw up plays to get guys open in space, we've got guys who can make things happen after the catch. Should be interesting.

If you look at what A&M did last night they rarely threw the ball over 15-20 yds. Why? Well new QB, easy throws up the seams and slants, playmakers in space are hard to tackle, and your pass protection doesn't have to hold blocks long. We'll do the same and add in a few play actions and there you go. I want our O-line to be nasty in run blocking. Blow people off the ball and open up holes, 5-6 yds a pop. Cam will do that early on I think and watch when Dom Jackson gets in, he's probably the best run blocker on the team. Ran a wing T in JucO

Yep. I expect a lot of that. Screens, slants, etc like you said.

Yeah, I think Dom may end up at LG if he's gonna start this year. You'd hate to see an experienced fifth year senior like Arie lose his job, but if he struggles again this year Dom can come in and blow people off the ball. Running left would be automatic at that point.

We have a mammoth Offensive Line.

IMO, the best offensive line is (from left to right) C. Rob, Hill, Kelly, Brown, Jackson. We should never have any issue at all running the ball to the right side.

regarding last night's game, SCAR looked like complete shite. Their QB missed a whole bunch of wide open WRs. But even moreso, their defense fricking sucked. I cant remember seeing one receiver that was tightly covered (although I did stop watching shortly after the start of the 3rd quarter). that was just piss poor football all around by the cocks.

Lol yeah they had absolutely no pass rush at all. Wonder how much that came from switching to a 3-4 defense with a coordinator who's used to a 4-3 with dominant edge rushers. SC also suffered from what we did last year as well. They had 3-4 true freshmen CBs that were clearly overmatched at times.

It was and everyone should have seen it coming. They lost their entire D-line and corners.

I agree, but after further review, Shep didn't do all that bad. As a run blocker he's smart and can move in a ZBS. He doesn't have a lot of power though.

Plus Dom Jackson does have question marks when it comes to pass pro.
