Did anyone feel like our guys were out of shape or had poor conditioning?

I watched some of the game last night, (I watched that 3rd and 1 call several times) but I actually didn't feel like our guys were that gassed. I felt like the conditioning was pretty good, especially for a defense that saw 99 plays. What stood out to me the most was just the lack of knowledge and poor form in the secondary rather than thinking our guys weren't physically able to get to the ball or that they were too tired.

Some of the angles we took to tackle were just stupid. Holloman in particular took an atrocious one on 3rd and long, whiffed the tackle because of it and aTm convert the first down.

It was an ugly game last night, that's for certain. However, it's really hard to judge a team by it's first game, good or bad. I honestly think y'all just came out flat, believing the hype that y'all were favorites to reach the SEC title game and A&M was toothless without Manziel.

Some positives to take away from the game, in my opinion:
-Williams-Brice is still an intimidating venue in which to play. The place was rocking last night at kick-off and through most of the first half. Any stadium will get quiet when the visitors start to pull away, but y'all still have one hell of a home field advantage.
-Your offense has big play capability. That alone makes you a dangerous team to play. On the road a couple of quick strikes can quiet a crowd; at home a couple of quick strikes can whip the crowd into a frenzy and make life difficult for the opponent.
-The defense will get better. The young kids in the secondary will get it together, it will start to click. The inexperienced DL will improve as they play each week. Skai Moore is a damn beast.
-Spurrier is probably cutting people's asses left and right today. He's not going to get caught with his pants down again. I think the team looked unprepared yesterday and he won't let that happen again this year.

I'm still very worried about the game in Columbia. If y'all can limit Gurley without moving safeties into the box then Mason will have a rough day and I still have no clue how our defense will look. I think y'all rebound and still have a pretty good season; might not be the kind of season y'all put together last year, because there are some real reasons for concern, but still a respectable W-L record.

The coaching in this game, seemed to be the bigger issue to me. Yes the defense looked confused and scared. So why not help them out by running the dam football? Three throws and a punt just puts them back center stage to get pounded on. Davis being down maybe hurt or maybe it didn't. Wilds has the ability to run the ball and he had good runs when he got the ball once a quarter. I really feel that the staff pressed the panic button too quickly to try and catch up. The dropped pass at end of half hurt of course, but coming right back out with the ball in the 3rd and throwing 3 more incompletes just sealed the game, the mentality was set that it was gonna be pass and nothing else.

Shoulda, coulda, woulda I know.

I feel we will post a decent record this year, but Don't think we will contend for shite. DT is a good kid and he has flashes of awesome, but he throws the home run ball every time no matter who is open underneath. A loss to UGA and I think we start seeing DT and Mitch splitting time to prepare for next season.

Give aTm full credit. They came in prepared, calm, and well-coached. They straight up kicked USC's arse, up and down the field. There was no gimmick here- just a shellacking.

The d-line is an issue, and one that likely won't get much better. There simply isn't enough size there. Everyone looked small. The team missed a Quarles-sized force something fierce.

The secondary is as bad as we thought it could be. They were abused all night long, and failed to cover, tackle, or cause any problems with aTm's fleet of receivers. They will improve as the season continues, but it may not be enough.

The o-line is OK, but not dominant. I have doubts if it ever really will be. I was surprised Williams didn't get carries last night, especially with Davis largely limited.

Thompson has great touch on the deep ball, and I agree that Jones' drop changed what was possible after half. But Thompson was just horrible in the underneath game. He needs to calm down, set his feet, and make his checkdowns. Those routes were open all night, but he was too farsighted to see them. That must improve.

I don't think the team is quite as bad as they showed last night, but there is definitely a ceiling on this squad. Hope is not completely lost, as the loss was to a West team and USC could still run the table, however unlikely that may be. Remember, after USC destroyed UGA in '12, the Dwags (sic) were still just a few yards from playing for a natty. Note, I do not think this team is capable of such a run, but it is worth pointing out.

Need the long weekend to lick wounds and regroup for a tough ECU team next week. If there is no marked improvement, it may be time to truly panic.

What has been going on with the tackling drills? I don't think I've seen that many attempted arm tackles and comlete missed tackles in college football. Ever. This game reminded me of the games against FSU and Auburn in 2010. Embarrassing. The defense looked like there were 11 Jake Hollands out there.

11 Jake Hollands on 1 field at a time, I couldn't even imagine. Lol

Just the first hame of the season with many new parts. A few games under their belt and they should be much better.

For what its worth, I didn't get to watch the game last night but basically followed it on the net. Also, I got the rundown from a bunch of passed off Gamecocks in the office this morning.

I watched the recording tonight and honestly, I would say TAM is pretty damn good. There were a lot of missed tackles....but those guys were hitting passes that nobody could've defended. Also, SC had guys in position but they just missed a tackle here...or a block there...and that made the difference. By the 2nd half it sucked the wind out of your sails.

I was hoping to see a SC team that looked really bad but you guys were just a step off in most cases. I think you'll be fine and give us a helluva game as usual. Sometimes you're just not ready and the other team is...as a UGA guy I know this feeling.

I don't like scheduling good in conference games out of the gate and this is why....without a preseason and playing in the hardest conference in the country you take a chance every time you have an early marquee matchup.

Just my take....
