That was a CYA deal. Eligibility issue.

Well considering players don't normally get suspended for a 1st offense, if he sits even a single play then I will have more. Some coaches let worse things slide just to keep players or let them play. You don't see many suspending their key players when not required.

It's sad you can't even wait until you lose to start making excuses. What's it going to be if JJ scores enough that Marshall playing doesn't matter? The HUNH excuse?

I only lose respect for Gus if we don't run the swinging gate read option every play.

I think not sitting him at all would convey the best message of all

If I were his coach, I'd do exactly as Gus did. Make him understand that he was stupid for getting himself caught. I wouldn't try and make an example out of him for smoking weed because I think it's illegality is absurd and I'd feel like a hypocrite. That's because I'm educated on the topic, though. Feel free to judge.

Marshall shouldn't sit at all, IMO. Mincy should sit one game, for representing AU in a local high schools DARE campaign one day and getting caught with weed the next.

Marshall should be subjected to the Ice Cream Cone treatment Shula had in place while at Bama. Quite effective.

None, because if I lost any that would imply I had a modicum of respect for him in the first place.

I've heard Nick Marshall will sit the first half, and that John Mincy would be out the entire game... However, all of that is out the window because Gus Malzahn said both would play against Arkansas.

I think they'll sit out a half.

He's really not being a hypocrite, because he never said that he wouldn't go in after the first play. He only said that he wouldn't start. As a Bama fan, I find this amusing because Auburn fans have always had so much to say about how our coaches really don't punish our players.
I really think that drug issues should be a rule of the SEC and the punishment decided by the conference.
