Yep, Crawford was listed 3rd on the DT depth chart during spring camp.

Crazy stuff.

That's nuts. Makes you wonder if he had been working there all last year and this past spring if maybe he wouldn't have displaced someone else on the line, though I don't know who that would be. Seemed the staff has always been high on Fairchild and he had the benefit of the spring. Says something that a kid that just started working at the position this summer beat him out. Can only mean good things as far as our depth goes on the OL.

Personally, in the meantime, if we're talking a series or 2 per game, I'd rather give it to the youth to develop it.

As would I.

The role I floated for Berks as the number 2 was different than this.

Well, even though they appear on the roster, we have this:

Pinkel: MU still waiting for clearance on incoming freshmen Brady & Ross. One finishing up class; one waiting on an appeal.

I've always liked the idea of using Berk in QB sneak/short yardage situations so I agree with you there. With that being said, if that is something the staff wishes to do, his standing on the depth chart will not effect that at all. He can be the 3 and still come in for short yardage situations.
