"JJ doesn't understand the effects apparel companies have".. yes he does and that's why we are Under Armour. If he didn't understand then we would take far less money to be just another Nike school and hold way less apparel money than schools like Alabama, UGA, and LSU which have states names tied to their school.

Per people in the program when it comes to basketball no he does not understand. I don't just spew shite from my head. He made the deal with UA because with all his faults he had always been good with financial decisions outside of coaches contracts until recently. Our deal was strictly a financial move. Apparel has no effect on football recruiting unlike in basketball where the apparel companies heavily influence AAU kids playing under their brand to go to colleges under their brand.

The whole essence of the apparel deals is not to bring recruits to schools.
No it's not the essence but it is the byproduct in basketball for most schools.

FTR I'm not saying we should leave UA in basketball. That would cost us a lot of potential money that we could get in apparel contract. We have a competitive advantage now by having by far the best basketball coach under the UA brand in Bruce Pearl. There are enough AAU UA kids to have a very good basketball team and unlike other UA coaches Bruce can get the top UA talent to come to one school. Saying JJ does not understand how apparel contracts affect basketball recruiting for many schools does not mean we should change in basketball. It's just a statement.

UA is not gonna pay AU the big money in football if we allow the basketball team to use one of their competitors.

So we take lesser money for FB and we're back to square one.

We're one of UA's premier brands. The AAU circuit is slowly but surely coming around to UA teams. I'm sure UA is more than happy that BRUCE frickING PEARL is now under the UA brand. How happy will they be when he starts having success?

Anyone who thinks Auburn is going to leave UA anytime soon for any reason?

(P.S. The above comment was a comment made in general, Lion, not made directly in response to you. Just thought you should know that. )

Exactly! And that's exactly what it should be.

A statement based on "what you've heard per insiders". There's no basis for the argument of whether or not he understands it because he made the correct decision in the first place. What would've been extremely dumb is making the apparel decision based on hoops recruiting. You're selling the most powerful man in Auburn athletics short. Whether you like the guy's hires or not. He's a business man and an elite one at that. I'd believe he sees the full picture before making a decision of that magnitude.

Edit: I'm not going any further. I've made my view on the matter clear.

We offered a 2017 5* so it looks like BP has long term plans here

Not just directed at you E but can we table the shoe discussions while we have a coach that can win regardless of our apparel contracts? We can revisit them again in 15 years when Pearl retires.

I woulbn't have ever brought it up on my own since it's a nonissue right now. All I was originaly doing was answering bagman's question about it.

Rig, Jay Jacobs does not believe apparel companies influence recruits significantly. Someone who works with JJ and was very involves with every UA deal told me that the apparel deal has very marginal effect on bball. This led me to believe Athletics as of 1-2 years ago did not think that caused our bball woes (dont know if that has changed)

This was heard first hand and not from some low level staffer

I heard 3 big in-state prospects are visiting this weekend, but I can't find which ones.

Danjel Purifoy, }osh Langford and Austin Wiley. They are the top players in state for 15, 16 and 17.

Wiley is one and done type talent perhaps. A whole bunch of God given talent. Langford is smooth all around. I really like the pieces Bruce is putting together. I think we will make a bunch of noise this year. But 2015 and beyond could reach the Pinnacle of AU Basketball very quickly.

Is Langford the player we needed to do A LOT of work in order to land him?

It's great to see these top state players visiting. In years past they would've been off to an elite program out-of-state...not saying they are guaranteed Auburn commits, but there is potential for them to come to Auburn.

Practice starts in less than a week!

On another note, per @AUHoopsBlog, a new roster has been released without Delph and Thompson listed. If the roster is indeed final, the two are off the team, which isn't truly a surprise.

Aren't those the two who left the team a month or so ago?

Yes, and I'd expect a press release soon stating they are off the roster.

I played with his dad in college. Maybe I need to drop a bag off at his house.
