I'm not planning on this being a permanent thing but a stepping stone.

ETA - thanks for the replies

Anniston has a brewery now?

Cheaha Brewing Company.

Honestly, the only time I've spent there was in the nice part of Anniston, girlfriend went to Donaho, etc. It's nice over there

I agree with pretty much everything in this thread as a native of Oxford. I like the quaintness of the area, but if you have no attachment, it's a really boring area.

Love going back because it's my hometown and I have family there, but I don't regret moving on...

Jacksonville would be a good spot for you too. It's about 15 minutes away from Anniston and nice apartments are relatively cheap, even though it's a college town. Decent bars and restaurants too. Its a small town but has quite a bit to do, and is in close proximity to a lot more.

This. Jacksonville is great! When school is in you can catch former 5 star recruits that were kicked out of the SEC playing for the Gamecocks. Freddie Kitchens got arrested there once, so there's also that.

Not a lot to do when school is out but within easy driving distance of plenty to do in Gadsden, Center, even over into Georgia.

Even if you are attached to the area it's pretty boring. I don't know what kids do there anymore. When I was in high school 10 years ago we'd hang out at the Quintard Mall. I was there a year or so ago on a Saturday night and there was absolutely no one there. I was shocked.

Oxford High School would jam pack that mall on Fridays and Saturdays. Not so much anymore.

I don't disagree, Quintard Mall was a ghost Town last time I went. Reminded me how empty Montgomery Mall got with no people and closed stores. Of course, that mall had some shootings there, kinda why it died.

Most of my excitement is getting back there to see family I don't get to see often. Even when I do stay there, we usually head out of town to do something.

I'm use to it and accept it, but there's definitely nothing of note in Oxford/Anniston.

When's the last time you've been in this area? Oxford has grown A LOT.

Gadsden must have changed exponentially since i was there 15 years ago. It was always like Oxford/Anniston but less convient to Atlanta and further to Birmingham.

If you move there I would look at Oxford because of conveinance to bigger cities.

The Peerless used to be a nice bar with more of college type crowd. My great grandfather was one of there first bartenders.

The White Plains/Choccoloco area is one of the most beautiful areas in the state and it has a very good school. Oxford is the best public school in the area.

My dad still owns a house in Oxford and I still have most of my
Extended family still there. I lived there for 25 years except for my time in college and the last 12 years.

With that said, there is a reason i moved 12 years ago and i am always reminded of that when i go back to visit.

3 months?

Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad town. There's just not enough for it not to get boring for someone who is moving to the area in his 20s. I can't speak for most of the night scene, as I left before that was an option for me. If you were raising a family, it's a good town with great schools.

There's some bright spots overshadowed with a lot of chains and hotels who make their money race weekend. The additions of Target and it's surroundings were great, but it's not something unique that would make me move there. That's probably where a lot of the mall's former traffic is diverted.

I find nothing wrong with Oxford because I'm a creature of habit. I'm use to doing what I do there and going elsewhere when I need something else. It's a good place to be for outgoing travel because you are a reasonable distance from several places. I just don't see enough to up sell it for more than it is.

They are on the right track, I'm glad to see some empty buildings filled or knocked down and built upon(just can't get anyone in that old Gregerson's/FoodMax building). It has come along way from the Tyson plant and not having enough classrooms for students. Half my 2nd grade year took place on the gym stage at OMS

It was just boring and nothing to do and I got a good job offer in New Orleans.

Its not a bad place and probably a good place to raise a family, but for a single 25 year old out of college not so much.

Now that i have a family of my own, i would love to br able to raise my son there instead of NOLA.

Very true, it is VERY boring around here if you're looking for some excitement lol. I don't go into Anniston unless I absolutely have too. I seriously hate that place. PLUS Oxford cops > Anniston cops. Someone mentioned the Dearmanville-White plains area.....that's a great place to live too. Oxford now owns Dearmanville schools and built them a really nice school. Oxford is stupid rich.

23 in December.

Use to live in Sherwood Forest when I lived there fulltime. Moved after the 5th grade, but still came back at least 15-20 times a year. Less now with a job and that it's a 4-5 hour commute.

I see...looks like we probably lived close to each other at one point. I'm 29 myself and have lived in Oxford my entire life although I went to Coldwater from kindergarten thru sixth. Coldwater was the shite.....I played football there. COLDWATER INDIANS...C....E.....S.....something something... I'm bored. Did lewis mention where he was offered a job from?

here's a shocker...Coldwater is owned by Oxford Schools now....Oxford is like a monopoly for all the schools around here.
