For all the people talking about Gurley being injury prone (other fan bases, not ours) I am more concerned about Mitchell. he does seem to be a bit on the injury prone side. But Scott-Wesley does on as does Conley.

I think crow said this but while I love those dudes (Conley, IMO, is the best WR we have had since AJ) neither are the guy who can routinely break one like MM26 could. JSW was more of a deep threat and Conley IMO is more of a possession guy. Excluding that play he had vs Nebraska the first time.

Absolutely! if you CAN'T throw it deep their secondary will creep closer and take away the short game. If he can throw 1-2 balls deep a game we will be ok. He will need to connect occasionally, too, though!

Yessssir. I am thinking but I really dunno if I have ever seen him complete a pass like that. Someone help me, I think pessimism is clouding my memory

Didn't think you were trying to argue.

Just wanted to make sure I didn't come across argumentative. Harder and harder to have debates on here (or anywhere) these days.

Whether he completes any deep balls at all, he will have to throw some to keep the D honest. Otherwise, our whole game plan will go to shite. Everybody will play 9 in the box and dare us to throw it 25 yards.

That's what scares the bejesus out of me. Gurley is great but he isn't a freight train.

I can't remember one either.

Gurley is as close as one can get to being a freight train though!

My ideal offense, with or without Mason, is a bunch of rhythmic passes from the gun and pistol coupled with power running from the same formations.

I think you have hit on exactly what Bobo has in mind this year. You should be a very happy man!

As long as he brings back the damn pistol. He forgot we had that after LSU. The jerk.

Can't recall it, but we have a limited body of work to pull from. Nebraska had a great secondary and Mason threw for 320 yards. that says plenty. you don't HAVE to go deep all the time.

I think Mason has enough to keep this from happening. he is inept. he just doesn't throw the ball 50-70 yards very often. 25-30 yards? he can do that with his eyes closed. (Not that he should!)

And that's with a banged up RB/WR corp and a dreadful performance from the OL (well, really everyone).

That first half he looked pretty bad but the second half gave me some hope for him. The conditions also really can't be ignored. That said he did throw like 36x. I hope that isn't indicative of the future.

We need a youtube like that one in Stoudt's thread but with Mason. I'm curious.

He might. BUT, keep in mind, he is pretty good at taking what the defense gives him. Just because it works well against one team doesn't mean it will against another. He mixes it up pretty well, and I think we will see a few surprises this year, too. I suspect he will do things with mason he could not do with Murray.

He does seem to start slow. I don't know if it is from lack of confidence, or just nerves. the more he plays, though, I think we will see this go away.

No reason to. They will go with the run game and throw to keep the defense honest. We will throw, but the run will make the offense go.

Gotta run guys! I enjoyed it! Like one of you pointed out....rare to have an honest thoughtful conversation around here. Kinda nice for a change!
