I agree. I think she did need to get out in front of it but overreached in her statement. Should've just said they're aware of the situation, they're investigating it, then all the stuff about progress.

With all the racial issues Alabama currently has and its past issues of the same nature, Bonner had no choice. The fact of the matter is that black student athletes bring in millions of dollars in revenue, promote the university on a national and global level, and help promote an image of a university that is united. Incidents like this change the perception and could cause problems. We are recruited about racial issues as is, we don't need anything else. Its really sad the Ole Miss can negatively recruit against you using racism

21 Black girls were offered a bid yesterday Along with 169 women who identified as members of other racial minorities. This was also the largest rush class ever. (Which they say every year). LINK All were offered bids from every sorority participating in Rush. Nice to see progress being made.

I am disappointed in your racial use of the term "girls" to describe African American women. Black girl is a historical term used to degrade proud black women and is used in attempts to make them seem less than, weak, and ineffectual.

It was typically used by the Southern white man, in past times, to humiliate black women. I noticed that you mentioned 169 other WOMEN who identified as members of other racial miniorities.

The other racial miniorities received your respect when they were spoken of but, not the BLACK GIRLS.

It is very alarming to hear human beings still refer to others in this fashion in this day and age.

Only blacks have ever been slaves in the history of the world, Carolina, and it just so happens that it occured only in the South. Alabama was one of those states.

And, here you are, on an Alabama owned site talking about "black girls" in a post addressing racism and bigotry. Now, sarcastically, you mention that you call white women girls also?

White girls weren't slaves and weren't derisively spoken to like dogs and, among other things, called girls. Frankly, if you are a white man, I don't think you have any grounds to be discussing this issue at all and should probably just recuse yourself from the conversation.

Well since I'm actually BLACK, your argument is null and void.

That makes it only all the more ridiculous. Just as you wouldn't call a strong, proud of his superior race black man a black boy, neither should you call black women by the demeaning designation of girls.

If you go to most universities outside of the south, it's extremely common to see very diverse fraternities/sororities.

I can with 100% certainty that at Mizzou in Columbia (which is near some pretty major metro areas btw) that this is NOT the case. They are more segregated and racist than we are.

Its an Alabama SPORTS board.

Guess those other threads from way back when about restaurants and things to do in Tuscaloosa need to be burned at the stake, then. And there are a few threads on this front page that don't have anything to do with sports. It's a big issue that has put the University in the spotlight for the wrong reasons, so why not discuss it?
