As a libertarian, I support private property rights and freedom of association but UA is a public institution so it's a hazy picture. Personally, I don't why someone would join these ESP. White frays/sorties since they don't matter much after college like some black organizations.

It bothers me that universities are associated with frats or sororities at all. They should be private organizations if they exist at all.

As for the rest, the only people I've ever suspected were hired because of frat or sorority ties have been fired due to poor performance.

Good. It's about time they stepped into the modern world.

Good to hear. I'm hoping the fraternities eventually move to a more formal rush to give some black guys a chance to join.

None of that really affects my opinion. They should all be allowed to admit or deny whomever they wish.

What do you think offered a bid means?

I've heard this argument and agree with it, but I think it's not looking at the big picture... big picture is whites and blacks actually wanting to be associated to each other. If you go to most universities outside of the south, it's extremely common to see very diverse fraternities/sororities.

Is it? Sure there may be a token here and there but I'm highly suspicious of that statement and please don't cite some random PAC ten sorority with 50% Asians.

Fraternities and sororities are very different from one another. A lot of frats at Alabama hold a lot of pride from the history of each house. KA claims Robert E Lee as one of its founding fathers. Not trying to step on anyone's shoes but anyone who is KA alum and donates isn't going to let that happen. I don't see it ever becoming mixed race for old rows fraternities. Sororities are more migrated toward philanthropies and having the old row prestige for old row frats to create connections.

I think Lee would be ok with the frat allowing blacks.

I'm gonna have to say while I don't believe in blind racism. I support a club or whatever it be to admit who they want. Not to be forced to get along with people when they don't want to. If it's not there, is it really that self fulfilling to know they are in but not welcomed? As far as Robert E Lee goes, I disagree with that. I think he would be confused to why we have a black president above all things. Like I said I personally don't think that way because I have been cultures but REL would not approve. I think you need to do some background research on what he was fighting for.

I don't remember a black guy ever trying to get into EN, but if he was a rad enough dude I would have no problem supporting him.

Can't really say the same about the rest of the fraternity, though.

Same deal here, which is why I mentioned that the fraternities are going to need to go the formal rush route. Too many kids coming from out of state to keep it how it is imo.

I'm glad Alabama is moving in the right direction. UA is too great to be stuck in the old ways. Our University deserves to be the best it can be. Roll Tide!

That be nice. Y'all's rush is so confusing and under wraps it almost seems like a secret. But at the same time I can understand the process.

I thought I read last year that frats at Bama had been integrated for years. Maybe it was just some of them and not all of them.
