Final scrimmage today. Sounds like the passing offense struggled for the second straight scrimmage.

quote:

. Starting quarterback Maty Mauk completed just four of his eleven passes for 28 yards, including only two of his last eight throws. The number one offense did score a touchdown on a 55-yard run by Russell Hansbrough, but other than that, settled for field goals when it did move into scoring position.

quote:

After a 16-for-24 performance in the first scrimmage, Mauk has completed just 12-of-31 for 131 in the two scrimmages since.

Does sounds like the running game is looking great and fast. Seeing multiple reports that Witters and Walters will be hard to keep off the field. Both have looked really good and fast.

Hanbrough, Walters, Witter with Steward hurt (or did he finally scrimmage?) and move Murphy to WR with an occasional spot play at RB.

Glad we've got four OOC's to work the kinks out.

Hopefully the league doesn't force us to conform to their way of scheduling as the OOC's upfront has worked well.

Here's a Dave Matter interview from earlier this week... LINK

The running backs found some massive alleys on the right side of the offensive line plied open by center Evan Boehm, right guard Mitch Hall and right tackle Connor McGovern. “It was just the play-calling,” Murphy said. “We were on the right hash and it just happened to run up that way. Then it opened up and we ran it and it worked. So we ran it again. The left side is just as big, just as good.”

Dave Matter Article On Yesterdays Scrimmage

quote:

n the No. 2 quarterback race, Printz put up the better numbers overall, especially Thursday. Five of his seven completions came against the No. 1 defense. It’s going to be a close call for the backup job. Both QBs had their shaky moments in the first scrimmage, but both played better Saturday in red zone and 2-minute drills and looked more poised and polished again on Thursday.

quote:

Richard quietly put together the most prolific scrimmages of the freshman receivers. At this rate, Lee might provide more value because of the injuries to the veteran slot receivers. Lee worked with the first unit some the last week. The best catch of the day among the freshmen — and maybe the best catch of the three scrimmages — was a 15-yard diving grab by Brown, who nearly bobbled the ball before securing it as he fell to the turf. In time, he looks like a player who can provide a jolt to the passing game on the outside.

The MVP of camp might have been Hansbrough. The junior is healthy after playing last season with a bum shoulder.

Sounds like pass offense and run defense both need to sharpen up. Only a few more real practices before we get to beat up on somebody besides team mates, given our warm-up/preseason scheduling, we should be ok.

Wouldn't be too concerned about the run defense because even in scrimmage, you are not going to go as hard at your own boys that you will against another team. But the pass offense does need to sharpen up. Not too worried though. Seems like the numbers weren't great in scrimmages last year. Rock with Mauk

Brady cleared to play

Gotta say, feel for these guys who are eventually cleared to play but lost any shot at this year. I guess that is unless they put themselves into that position.

Am I hearing correctly that Ross has now made it on campus as well?

Interesting Morrison article with a breakdown of the scholarships. He breaks it down by position, looks at the years they've been at Mizzou, their ranking coming in and so forth.

Looking at the WR scholarship breakdown...losing DGB hurts but what really hurts is that in order to get him, we really didn't recruit anyone else, so now there's a bit of a gap between guys who have been here 4/5 years and 1 year.
