Back in MS for a while. (Actually, MS is the new home base for a while.) I successfully talked my way out of Burning Man this next week. I can't even believe that I said I would think about it.
Show of hands if you have ever been. It is pretty wild, but I went one time and had a lifetime supply of hot, dusty camping out.
Hard to find Burning Man images that are OK to post, but one girl with a bottle of champagne riding another girl is pretty representative.

I thought about trying to organize a burning man trip. Then i realized that I am now 30 and there are way more fun things to do than spend days in a tent getting all my shite covered with sand and dirt.

So I pick the Swede up from Memphis last night. That's a great thing.
Then I get invited to a J Valentine photo shoot in Vegas. That's a great thing.
Then the Swede says, "Oooo. Let's do one of those drive thru wedding things when we are in Vegas."

Wow. They had a downpour at Black Rock City. It has turned the desert into a big sea of mud. Apparently thousands of campers are stuck in Reno because the roads are too muddy to get into Burning Man.
The plus side is that they won't have this problem this year...

The gal that manages our models in LA asked me to bring her a fresh, southern face when we go to LA this week, so I put out a casting call and had a number of cuties show up for the audition.
Many of the girls were rejected flat out because I had a minimum height requirement for the call. One girl that was 7" under had driven 90 miles to the casting call. Quite a few of the girls were pudgy. For top notch talent, it was a pretty weak group, but there was this one gal that really stood out.
She was 5'10", good proportions, and very fit. She had done a couple of years at Ole Miss, but decided school just wasn't her thing. She wanted to go to LA or NYC, but she didn't even know where to start. Her portfolio was full of amateur pictures, and it was obvious that she was new to the model game.
When we find someone that we like, we put together a sheet of data with photos of the girl with no make-up with her hair pulled back. It allows clients to evaluate the raw product.
We also go through a process to find out what type of jobs they want to do for work in LA. Models get hammered with a ton of requests for nudes. We hire models that accept nude work for our fashion shoots, but we don't usually represent them. It is just too much work to screen the photographers, provide chaperones, etc. The world is full of creeps with cameras.
Anyway, this gal said she was undecided about nude work, so I check "no" for nude and implied nude work. After getting the checklist done, I was ready for the no make-up photos, so I asked the girl to take off all of her make-up.
She said, "How much do you want me to talk off?"
I said, "Everything."
So, she stands up and starts disrobing.
This was one of those moments where you know you need to do the right thing and correct the situation before the girl gets completely naked. I felt bad about the misunderstanding, and I fully intend to do the right thing the next time I am confronted by the same situation.
