Georgia didn't end up holding a full-fledged scrimmage. So no stats. They went "thud," which means hitting but not tackling.

“There’s just not a lot settled at a lot of positions especially on the defensive side of the ball,” Richt said. “I’m concerned about it, but the dust is going to settle and guys are going to go out there and play ball and we’ll see what they’re made of.”

Is this just a coach being a coach, or is Richt basically telling us we're back to square one as far as not having a secondary that can play?
We've heard some names in the secondary, but other than Swann and Moore, no one else has been praised for stepping up. I was really hoping there was going to be a standout DB this camp, but it sounds like we're still super green.

Dumb question: why would they go to "thud" and not tackling? If I recall correctly, we seemed to have a problem wrapping up and tackling, did we not? Practice can't hurt, eh?

I think out of all of those names, I'm most excited about Greg Pyke. Just did not expect him to break out and it's pretty sweet to have an unexpected OL come through and start kicking arse.

I guess they're trying to lower that green jersey count. This time last year, we were going live so I dunno.

I agree. The fact that he was able to come in and basically own the RG spot this whole camp means he's going to be decent.

Our shitty tackling doesn't come from a lack of physicality I think. It comes from the piss poor angles and the thing that PISSED ME OFF was we would knock our own tacklers over because we were slipping all over the fricking place. Don't want to see any of that this year.
As for why we went thud. I'm going to guess it has to do with coaches seeing it as a walk-through more so than a scrimmage. Richt certainly gave me that impression from the video.

Thanks for the reply.
That makes sense to me. One has to wonder if the new coaches have been stressing fundamentals more than those in the past.

There have been some names that have received some pretty big praise: Fenteg, Sanders, Davis, have all been singled out on multiple occasions as guys having great camps. Pruitt is staying on Fenteg's arse right now because he's missed time, he's new, and he's going to be a starter so Pruitt needs to make sure he's 100% ready to go.
I think Swann ends up an All-SEC CB, he caught a lot of shite last year for blown coverages when it seemed like there should have been help over top from a safety. I think a more streamlined game plan is going to help the entire secondary out a lot.

If Corey Moore can be solid at safety, that's worth an extra win. That would be huge

Any standouts in the defensive backfield is huge.

No doubt, since I read in one of Emerson's articles is that Richt has concerns in that area after Wednesday's mini-scrimmage.

The big surprise, certainly for me, was the presence of Dominick Sanders as the starter at the “Star,” or nickelback, position. Sanders was probably the least heralded of Georgia’s four defensive back signees. He came from Tucker as a 3-star prospect and was actually rated the 73rd-best recruit in the state of Georgia by 247Sports.com. But the buzz about this 6-foot, 187-pound athlete began back in the summer and has continued throughout camp. Interestingly, he has emerged at a position that at one time appeared to be locked down by converted tailback J.J. Green. Green’s now working at second-team safety, while also getting some work at Star
It did seem like green had the star position locked down.
