ok you're right, I guess my sources who played golf with mike white last week and heard it from his mouth were wrong.
the real story here is Disneys contract with DIRECTV is up on 9/30 and part of the renewal is DISNEY wants DTV to take Longhorn, SEC and DTV wants Watch ESPN. it should be done soon
DIRECTVs just announced its profit rose 20% year over year and greatest leap in its history. they are doing just fine. they predicted negative subscriber gain, its the business we are in. FYI Dish is expected to post a negative gain as well next week. DTV has 21 million customers, dish has 14. dtv outsells dish 2 to 1 worldwide. no comparison between the companies. dish is peanuts compared to DIRECTV and you can ask anyone in my business and they will agree

Out of curiousity, how do you know that about DTV and losing all these subscribers?

DIRECTV had there Q2 results conference call about 2 hours ago and I was on it.
they were very pleased and should be. nobody cares about net subscribers in the previous quarter.
the pay tv business is saturated and with the cord cutters and Netflix people of the world the business isn't growing so expect every quarter to be a negative gain.
the big thing is growth and money. like I said profit is up 20% so everyone is happy. their ARPU is at an all time high(average revenue per user). its about $20 higher than DISHs
directv still brings on a million subscribers a quarter and did last quarter. they are just fine. and remember they are valued at 42B and AT&T just offered 48B plus debt to buy them so they thing very highly of their value long term

I wouldn't get overly excited about this, he chose his words carefully & is trying to stop the bleeding. They will likely make a deal but the comments about agreement on price doesn't carry much weight as far as the SEC Network goes, it's long been announced what the inside/outside SEC subscription rate per subscriber costs is. They are still hung up on tthe totality of the Disney/ABC/ESPN contract demands and for now, he's kicking the can down the road. Clock is ticking and he has 14 days to launch. ESPN has the upper hand and DTV will either pony up or take the hit. It's costing them subscribers every day and most will not be back, ball's in their court. In the meantime, Dish has assigned channels and was in last night's satellite upload & ready to go.

What does the LHN have to do with this? I thought they operated separately and not in partnership with ESPN?
No. LHN is operated in the same way as SECN.

ESPN is using this SECN launch to force any service provider who wants SECN to take WatchESPN and LHN too.
Great news!
I hope you're wrong on the Longhorn Network being a forced add.
Just because the cocksucker that runs Dish swallowed whatever ESPN gave him, doesn't mean Direct's CEO should.

DirecTV close on SEC Network deal, working with NFL, miles apart on SportsNet LA
DirecTV (NASDAQ: DTV) chairman and CEO Mike White said the satellite company has agreed on rates with ESPN/Disney on the soon-to-launch SEC Network regional sports channel, and is "optimistic" about coming to terms with the National Football League by the end of the year for a crucial renewal of the "NFL Sunday Ticket" package.
White addressed a number of topics while peaking with investors Thursday, July 31 on a conference call to discuss DirecTV's second-quarter earnings, during which it exceeded Wall Street expectations with 5 percent revenue growth to $8.1 billion.
White said DirecTV has agreed on rates with the SEC Network, and is "hopeful and optimistic" a deal will be in place when the RSN launches Aug. 14. Earlier on Thursday, Charter Communications (NASDAQ: CHTR) announced that it is also close to announcing a deal for the RSN, which already has agreements with the rest of the major pay-TV carriers.

Comcast already said no to that.

I'm unsure about the Longhorn requirement although Dish announced it as part of the overall SEC Network parent companies' deal. That said, Comcast customers are already authorized for WatchEspn if they have the requisite programming.

This is a kinda big deal considering he bitched publically about the rates multiple times.
