Least respected? Guess you better go find out what's going on in the world by yourself. I'm sure those twitter posts about someone beating up 7 guys at the same time in a Starbucks is true.

Journalism is a really booming career path

It really is especially in PR. But no, it's dying.

Majored in our Journalism program at Ole Miss. Wasn't impressed with it at all. It sucked. Got my degree in Journalism with an emphasis in Public Relations. Professors were bad about using their liberal bias to teach the classes.
You run into more liberals on college campuses because the people there are educated.

They see there being less newspapers and automatically think, "JOURNALISM IS DYING!" when it's actually growing and evolving into online media.
It is dying in the sense of getting paid to be one, but probably growing overall. Anyone with a twitter account or blog can break news or report on something. This really wasn't the case until social media exploded. Now everyone has a voice. You don't have to own a newspaper, tv station or website to get your story out there. A lot of people write political or sports blogs as a hobby. Unless you make it CNN or ESPN big don't expect to make over 30k

Oh unless I had a job with an athletics department I wouldn't go into reporting. PR is the way to go if you want to make money in the field.

Not exactly. Simply because someone is on a college campus or attends college does not make them educated.

Or because they get their corn pone from the government ( from a great Missourian ), and liberals tend to support more spending on their behalf.

I really hope you're not insinuating liberal=educated

Statements like this is exactly why the term "journalism" now is skewed. It's the same reason why you never report on something when your only source is a police scanner. If @IeatzPoSsUm84XOXO tweets the Dan Mullen just bought a recruit a car, are you going to run with that story? No....because there is no credibility established with that person.

Wildly incorrect. Now, it's very unlikely that you'll ever make the big bucks....but you can easily get that in any low-to-mid market. Except if you're a sports reporter a few years removed from college. Those guys make less money than pizza drivers.
That statement is another reason why people's perception of a "journalist" is fricked up. First day of J101 we're told "if you're trying to get rich, leave this class now and go the business school". Your typical J-School graduate isn't seeing dollar signs in his/her eyes after graduation.

But if you had a job with an athletics department, you would not be a journalist. YOU WOULD BE WORKING IN PUBLIC RELATIONS.
Glad I could set that straight for you.
Sincerely,
A graduate of the best journalism school in the country

Maybe more educated in things like journalism, history, political science
But things that matter, like economics, are swaying away from liberal ideas

Funny you bring up Yancy....He's a perfect example of just because someone has a twitter account, that doesn't make them a journalist. If I had to figure out an occupational title for Yancy, it would be College Recruiting Speculator.
And people who consider Chuck a journalist makes me as well. Sports writer =/= journalist.

You can get a newspaper, watch the news on TV or read the news on the internet and STILL have no idea what is really going on in the world.
