I look at him as both. He has a legacy at both schools/teams. I don't think people are going to ever forget about him at Florida, because he also played and won the heisman at UF.

It all depends on how he finishes his career at South Carolina. If he even wins an SEC title he would be remembered for both. Much more at UF, but South Carolina will get some spotlight as well.

If he only wins 11 games a season and doesn't get any true hardware, as time goes by people will forget what he did at SC.

The only other way I can see him being remembered at South Carolina if he doesn't win championships, is if the next guy after Spurrier finishes what he has built here.

The Visor

When he retires in 2025, I will remember him as a former SC Coach. IDK that he coached at UF, just like I reckon most Gators will remember him as the UF Coach.

There are a bunch of people in Arkansas who remember Lou Holtz as a Ark Coach, but a lot of Gamecocks remember him as an SC Coach, and then there are some catholics who remember him as a ND Coach.

It doesn't matter how Spurrier is remembered to all, or that everyone remembers him as the coach for this, that or the other team. He'll always be The Visor or the Head Ball Coach.

I'm only in my mid twenties, but Spurrier will always be a Gator to me.

He's one hell of a coach that had Fulmer's number even in some of our best years ever.

Part of the reason why the win over Florida in 2001 was so special for me even though I wasn't even a teenager then.

Depends if he can ever win the SEC with USC, otherwise he will be remembered for his Florida days.

The only time someone scored 50 against UG in Athens, yep, Spurrier knew it and fixed that little problem.

Gator but he needs to retire before he goes all Bobby Bowden on us.

The Head coach of Florida or the Head coach of South Carolina?

Personally I think his legacy is the building up of SCAR. Much like Miles will always be thought of as the Head Coach of LSU.

What's the rants two cents? I'm interested in UF fans opinions on this as well.

Great question.

I dunno.

He's going to be remembered for both, as both, I suspect. Especially if he stays longer at SCAR, wins a championship at SCAR and retires here in SC.

You're right about his legacy if he goes-out a big winner here at SCAR. He knows it too. This is his legacy job. It almost came too easy for him at UF and he was too brash at times in the process.

This job humbled him, asked more of him, ... and honestly, we love him here. There was some question about that when he tried to return to Florida. But here, he's become part of the family.

He recently said this is his home now. He said he'll always be a Gator at heart but this is his home now. His family is here, they love it here, all his grandkids are here. He's going to retire here and live here. Jerri loves it here.

I dunno, it's a damn good question. I do believe he'll be remembered as a Gator but his legacy, what people will talk most about years from now ... is what he did for SCAR.

Heisman Trophy winner
National Championship winning coach
Pretty decent golfer
Brought USC football to the world
Big failure as an NFL Coach

Funny as hell when making fun of other people.

Hanging 50 on UGA in Sanford for the sheer fact that no one else had ever done it.

I like Spurrier and respect him but the way he ran the score up on us in the early nineties was fricking nasty.

I know this was the time where voters considered margin of victory but still.

ETA: It somewhat takes the sting away how we have owned him since he has been at USCe.

Especially how rustled he got after the 2007 rain game with the Flynn to David FG fake

He should be remembered as the LSU coach but we had a traitorous ad that didn't hire him.

Reminds me of when Bobby Bowden wanted the Bama job in 1987 and we hired Curry instead.

He didn't mind chucking the ball deep late into the 4th quarter up 28 back then.

It was really a beautiful offense to watch.
