And that pic was taken the Sunday after. When you combine around a thousand drunk people on one of the most heavily trafficked area on campus and only provide a hundred or so cardboard trash cans, that is the result. I'm asking that they open it back up to tailgating and hire a group to either collect and dispose of trash throughout the day to reduce accumulation like in that pic or to at least be at the ready to help clean up when kickoff rolls around.

Because rules like this

quote:

Tailgating on North Campus is allowed beginning five (5) hours before kickoff.
Tables cannot exceed six feet.
Tents are allowed.
The following items are not allowed on North Campus on gamedays:
Kegs
Generators
Televisions
Amplified music
Grills or cookers of any type
Household furniture (folding chairs not included)

make me wanna say "frick it" and just stay at home.

People don't get up at 6AM and drive across the state for a night game because they think it's that much more worth it to be there in person as compared to watching it on TV (if that were the case, NFL games would never have to worry about TV blackouts due to lack of ticket sales). They do it for the fun of being on campus, tailgating and partying, and taking in the sights and sounds of gameday before the main event begins. College football is equal parts an experience inside the stadium and outside the stadium. Discouraging fans from setting up on North Campus (which is what those rules are in effect doing) eats into half the fun of being there.

Exactly correct and I think that many of our AD's don't realize that.

How about the people tailgating taking some responsibility to bring their own trash bags/cans and clean up after themselves? That's what we've always done, and I notice most other people in Tuscaloosa do.

1) Lift North Campus tailgating restrictions.
2) Make gamedays an exception for open container laws downtown.
3) Sell beer in the stadium.
4) Concessions could be improved in general, but I don't really care about that.

I'm excited to see the sound system improvements.

Agreed. They see everything outside of the stadium as a drain on resources, security, portapottys, trash cans, food sales, alcohol sales, traffic, ect.

They constantly try to find ways to nickle and dime fans more and more and more in order to curb the tailgating culture, thinking that the tailgating exists at the expense of the stadium, when in reality, it is often the opposite. LSU learned last year and will continue to learn this year that the more you hurt tailgating, the more you actually hurt the stadium atmosphere. The more you inconvenience the fan, the less money he will pay to be inconvenienced. Fans will continue to pay top dollar as long as AD's do not continue to inconvenience them to do so.

Let the tailgaters tailgate, make sure that there is abundant, convenient parking both free and for sale. Do what is necessary to improve traffic to and from the stadium (more tailgaters help this by spreading out the arrival and departure times from the stadium resulting in fewer cars on the road at the same time), make the stadium experience more welcoming, and help it to be more fun.

What makes the "watching at home" experience enjoyable?
It's simple: clean bathrooms, you can stay up to date on every game, access to alcohol, and you don't have to sit in traffic. Schools can find ways to improve these aspects in their stadiums to get more fans. With more and cleaner bathrooms, more in game updates on other games (see Georgia as an example), alcohol sales, and improved traffic and parking situations, schools can ensure more butts in the stands longer.

Or you bring your own trachbags and act like you have some sense.

At my tailgate spot in AU, they have a huge actualy trashbin, not a cardboard box, and it fills up realy quick so when we are at the grocery store getting beer and ice and food...we buy trashbags and clean up after ourselves.

The school needs to buy real trash bins and empty them out the next day but the fans need to pick up after themselves.

They dont do that?

I thought Athens was the best place for gamedays and you cannot walk around with an open container? that blows.

One of my friends got stopped last time I was there for a game in 2012. They didn't give him a ticket but made him pour it out.

GAY!

I intentionally got a close hotel so I could walk out of it and just down the street to the campus with my beer.

LSU fans should stay past the 3rd quarter in conference games against the likes of Auburn and Florida for crying out loud.

Freaking ridiculous.

I've never had a problem in the past as long as it was in a cup, but he had a bottle. The last time I was there for a game I was 20 so I tended to avoid the issue though. There are probably better people to comment on it.

Same at ours, and it's not for some lofty altruistic reason, it's so the University doesn't have an excuse to shut down more area's to tailgating. We are lucky, it's usually the same people tailgating in the same spot every game, but occasionally get some outsiders and will clean up after them if they don't.

Are the concessions manned by actual workers or groups of people (HS Band boosters ect) to raise money?

UGA actually had trash collection contractors hired to show up that night but they didnt show up until the next morning, after the red and black reporter took that pic.

Except for the "branded" booths most all others are staffed by schools/churches/boy scout/charity workers etc...

The vast majority at UGA do. But North Campus sees just about every single person in Athens for the game come through there and deposit trash in some quantity. Add that to the general inability of raging drunks who have been in the same place all day to leave their tailgate areas clean before heading to the game, its an unavoidable problem to which the reaction was to shut down tailgating completely rather than do something to better address the situation so everyone could come away happy.
