That was a crazy finish. Alabama was in the midst of a 15 game winning streak at Tiger stadium. That game cemented the fact that Alabama couldn't lose there...... until 2000.....

along with losing Reese the DC....and Morris Watts, the OC left for Michigan State. couldn't replace assistants.

SIAP--Lou Tepper's scheme defensively, which would take four years to implement properly, combined with Dinardo's stubbornness when it came to keeping him was his downfall.

Kige the comments RE: losing his quality coordinators and replacing them with terrible people (esp Tepper). Tepper seriously talked about how many years it would take to completely install his defense at LSU. This really should have been grounds for instantaneous firing. You don't have three plus years to install a system at the college level. Every year you get new players and some of them have to play... you lose everyone after 4-5 years FFS.
Anyway, while not the reason for LSU's descent after the rebuild, Booty was also not a good thing for LSU and it took even Saban a while to brave the Louisiana faithful who so wanted him to be the greatest thing ever... and bench him in favor of a better QB with real leadership qualities.

The same thing that went wrong with Mike Shula: He stopped winning.

gerry became too loyal to the wrong assistants and got paranoid that the good assistants were going to take his job. He also lost complete control of the team.

And he made bama who they are today.
And "Bear" made bama who they were back when.
Without "Bear" and saban, Bama is basically Miss. St. without cowbells if you really think about it.
Don't hurt yourself.

And without Gene Stallings, and Wallace Wade, and Frank Thomas...
Basically your saying without all of Bama's good season they are Miss State.
Poor attempt.

Very stubborn. Teams also really went up and down a lot. He had started developing a more physical team and. The 10-2 team in '96 was fun, but the two losses to Florida and Alabama were blowouts.
Remember, in 1998 LSU was ranked as high as #6 when we played Georgia. Lou Tepper's 'read and react' defense didn't work in the SEC and DiNardo should have seen that in the Auburn game two weeks earlier. LSU lost two games that year 39-36. Every team that beat LSU that year provided that week's "Offensive Player of the Week".
He left Saban some pretty good players to work with, but Saban had to get their mindset back in the game.DiNardo may very well have gone 7-4 in 2000,but there was no way on Earth he would have won the SEC in '01.

Not in context with what that Gump said. If you are implying LSU had no history nor tradition prior to 2000, you are an idiot.
