I'm hoping he doesn't back down. Obviously he's messed up if he yells at Saban, but CNS will try to get to his assistant coaches. If Kiffin just folds, Saban will lose some respect for him. He'll wanna see Kiffin stand up for his ideas.

Disappointment: Trey Depriest, Alabama
You happy now?

I'm not happy about it, but I had a feeling he was going to disappoint us.

DePriest is out of shape. Better to cop to a minor infraction in a game that he won't play in much rather than have him fake an injury like the LB from Auburn last year. Boom the season has started

What we saw
-- DB Jarrick Williams (foot) and WR DeAndrew White (shoulder) worked from the inside because of their respective injuries. White's arm is in a sling while Williams is wheeling around on a scooter. White could be back as soon as Sept. 20 against Florida while Williams is out for the next month.
-- Alphonse Taylor lined up with the first-team offensive line at right guard while Leon Brown worked as the backup. Brown started Saturday but Taylor played a number of series. Brown had three penalties.
Alabama coach Nick Saban was brief and to the point when he was asked about the ongoing competition.
"I think both the guys at right guard played OK," he said. "And we think both guys can improve and play better."
-- More on the offensive line: Grant Hill continues to work as Cam Robinson's backup at left tackle while Dominick Jackson is still at right tackle behind Austin Shepherd.
-- Trey DePriest, who is available for the home opener after missing Saturday's game because of a suspension, worked alongside Reggie Ragland during early-practice drills. His leadership was missed against the Mountaineers.
-- Glanced over at the quarterbacks and saw Blake Sims and Jacob Coker making throws as they ran to the left. Sims, who was otherwise sharp in his debut as Alabama's starter, came up short on a couple of his on-the-run throws Saturday.
-- Chris Black appears to be the player whose snap count will increase most during White's absence. Look out for ArDarius Stewart, too.
-- Geno Smith and Maurice Smith are going to see their reps increase most during Williams' absence. Geno Smith, who played a number of snaps at safety Saturday, was Alabama's starting Star by the end of his freshman season while Maurice Smith worked as the second-team Star throughout the preseason.

I thought Pierschbacher was getting the 2 reps?

^This. Rob Foster was second in line on the depth chart.

I don't get why Foster didn't get on the field. Absolutely nothing has been said about an injury or being in the doghouse.

Foster will work his way onto the field. Black has good chemistry with Sims and he is another big playmaker with the ball in his hand.
I'm excited to see what Mo Smith can do at Star. He always seemed like a plus athlete with above average technique coming out of high school, but I haven't seen much to form an opinion on at the college level. But Geno has played pretty good at Star in the past. There was a time when Geno seemed the heir apparent at that spot.

Stewart, Black, and Cam Sims all saw multiple reps, I was surprised as well to not see Foster out there, particularly after White went down.

I would love to see Cooper, Black and Foster on the field at the same time.

Me too.
I'd like to see Coop/OJ both get about 5-6 catches vs FAU. Easy competition, QBs gonna be throwing, should be interesting.
Gotta get that ball to Black and Stewart though.

Yeah, if Geno didn't get that DUI he was gonna start at Star last year.

He was at LT for about a week. Think he's at LG now

Good to see that Brandon Greene is back at TE. I think he offers more than D.Ball. Also his presence at TE signals to me that they are happy with the depth at LT and that they are looking to use some power packages with 6 or 7 lineman later on

QBs + RBs run interesting play
Alabama's quarterbacks and running backs took reps together during the second viewing period, and they lined up in an interesting play call. The QBs were lined up in shotgun with the RB to their right. They would then receive the handoff and run what appeared to be a read option play.
Blake Sims and T.J. Yeldon led the two position groups, while Jacob Coker and Derrick Henry were behind them.
Alec Morris was the only quarterback to keep the ball and run downfield.

Seems like that play is probably continuing the transition to Sims as starter and using more of his skillset.
Posted on 9/2/14 at 5:44 pm to chattabama
Definitely.
Will be interesting to see if Coker can create a controversy Saturday.
The important thing to remember is we're gonna dink and dunk at first. WCO. That sets up the deep stuff. I expect both QBs to take a couple of shots. Only thing Coker can do at this point to state his claim is complete some deep balls if Sims doesn't. But if he can't command the O, it'll hurt him.
Saturday is gonna be fun, despite the opponent. I'm glad the game is at 11, I couldn't wait any longer than that to see em both play.

read-option play.
As long as Sims is at QB, this needs to be an integral part of the offense. He runs it very well.
