While it's true that starters will typically practice in the morning, it's not necessarily an indication that a returning player is at the bottom of the depth chart if he practices in the late session. Especially a 2nd year player.

yeah i know, a lot of times they will throw a few seasoned guys into the newcomers practice in order to 1) fill the field, 2) bring up the intensity level, and 3) give some younger guys like Williams a chance to show their leadership

-- Yes, Florida State transfer Jacob Coker was one of three QBs present for the morning session, joining Blake Sims and Cooper Bateman. It looked like your typical first day for Coker, who had a handful of high throws. You'll see pretty much all of the throws we saw in some upcoming videos.

-- RB Kenyan Drake, who was arrested in July and suspended from team activities, was on the field and one of four at his position. He joined T.J. Yeldon, Derrick Henry and Jalston Fowler.

-- DL Jarran Reed, who was arrested last month for a DUI, was not at the morning practice. The six defensive linemen were: A'Shawn Robinson, Jonathan Allen, D.J. Pettway, Dalvin Tomlinson, Anthony Orr and Darren Lake. Senior Brandon Ivory, a returning starter at nose guard, was not present.

-- CB Eddie Jackson, who went down with a torn ACL in April, was one of the five at his position. With a big brace on his right knee, he worked through drills alongside Bradley Sylve, Tony Brown, Cyrus Jones, Anthony Averett.

-- Two other newcomers on the field: P JK Scott and OL Dominick Jackson. Jackson worked with the second group of offensive linemen at right guard, but the group didn't have enough for two full teams, so some players ran with both.

-- Interestingly, Alphonse Taylor was at RG with the first group. Left to right, it was Cam Robinson, Arie Kouandjio, Ryan Kelly, Taylor and Austin Shepherd. Leon Brown was not present.

-- Chris Black swapped his No. 5 for No. 1. According to Alabama's media guide, Bo Scarbrough was to wear No. 1. I wouldn't read into that as anything definitive about Scarbrough's status. Remember, Henry changed his number three times last year. Freshmen take what they can get.

-- WR DeAndrew White, who missed the spring with a toe injury, was back and practicing.

-- Sophomore Ryan Anderson was one of four players working at inside linebacker. He's typically been with the outside linebackers.

Although I will say it's interesting that Reed, Ivory, and Brown weren't there. With Reed it's probably disciplinary. With Ivory and Brown, not sure.

its encouraging to hear eddie jackson is out there doing drills already (ie cutting). it had to have been a much less severe tendon injury than might have been thought for him to be out there so soon, probably a slight pcl or something.

hmmm, I wonder if A'Shawn was at NT. Lake is the only true NT i see in that group. But he could use the extra coaching from Big Bo after missing the spring with an injury

Looks like Coker still has a lot of work to do on his accuracy

Looks like he throws high. That's usually it. That's an easy fix. Probably comes from throwing to Kelvin Benjamin.

It'd be something if Jackson was back in time for Ole Miss.

Bateman is the darkhorse here. I would definitely say he's not out of the competition. A few good practices/scrimmages, and who knows? He looked good at A-day, all things considered.
