Then stupid I am because in the current climate of CFB, I don't see Mark Richt hoisting a NC trophy

But you saw Chizik?

How about Jimbo Fisher? Did you see that one coming?

For recruits it's either play for UGA or leave the state altogether. There's not much in between.

Those players wanting to leave the state would still leave. And unfortunately a lot of them are very open to leaving the state.

It's not like Murray, Stafford, Gurley, Marshall, Knowshon, and AJ Green didn't come from Out of state.

Recruiting has never been and never will be the problem at UGA.

He'd be one of our better coaches if not 2nd best.

His only challenge would be 'crootin.

I think at schools like USCe and Arkansas he would be held tGOAT. I think even Tennessee would welcome a Richt-like run at this point. However, for a school like UGA it's interesting to observe how content their fan base is

Valid point but I still maintain you have a different outlook of Richt if Georgia Tech was winning ACC Titles and making more noise nationally. As it stands right now, you own them and therefore own the state

Yet, they are 3rd or 4th on our list of "rivals."
Keep in mind, when it comes to Florida, Tennessee, GT, USCe, and Auburn, Richt has done well against each at times....usually just not all in the SAME year.

You are stupid if you think GT has ANYTHING to do with our recruiting over teams like UF, Auburn, USCe, and Tennessee.

NAh, I saw Cam Newton, Nick Fairley, Mike Dyer, Gus Malzahn et al.

Mark Richt has had Matthew Stafford, Aarron Murray, AJ Green, ect, ect, ect with little to show for it.

I couldn't see Auburn fans being content to play second fiddle even if it's with double digit win seasons

Tubs would still be AU's coach if he hadn't screwed up the '08 season so bad, lost the freakin Vandy and no bowl game got Tommy the boot. It was +50 between AU's natty's before Gene brought one to the Plains. So don't act like AU would have kicked a solid coach like Richt to the curb.

Texas said the same thing about A&M and look what's happened to them. The right coaching staff and players can completely change the perception and dynamics of football within a state.

Richt is a damn good coach that hasn't had things fall his way that other coaches have. But here's my main point, if we fire Richt, we would have no chance of replacing him with a coach that would be as good. Texas, arguably the number 1 coaching job in all of college football, just replaced Mack Brown with Charlie Strong. I believe that Richt is just as good, if not better than Strong. If Texas can only get Strong, who in the world are we going to get that is better than Richt? Kirby Smart (no head coaching experience, could be just like muschamp) or Chris Petersen (only coached in Northwest, never been at a big program)? If you can tell me a coach who is better than Richt, and will be better for UGA I would be happy to replace him. But since you can't, shut up.

Cam was better then all. Again if Richt had Cam he would have a natty.

Don't act like luck doesn't have anything to do with winning a national title either.

2002, 2007, and 2012 all years Richt got the short end of the stick

Tech won the ACC back in 2009 and hasn't been the complete level of dogshit they have been of late. But if they were doing well, it'd only be another name on the endless list of rival programs that we always feel a need to one-up. There is no lack of drive in the fanbase or program to be the best; there is only a disagreement as to how we should get there. From the outside, fans believe that we need to emulate Alabama and constantly build bigger and better facilities in order to wage more successful battles in recruiting. From the inside, the powers that be are trying to stay the course and run the program responsibly using the philosophy they have had since 2001 when Richt came on. Since Pruitt arrived, there have already been a lot of modernizations of the old model with regards to hiring a ton of support staff and how practices are run. Rumors are that the Strength staff is next to be overhauled, and even then players have been very vocal about how much the summer routines have changed/improved since the new defensive staff was brought in.

That's not true at all, unfortunately. Georgia is not a state that can be won by any one team, including the home base. UGA can win MOST of the state by performing well on the field, but it will never lock down the state like Bama/Auburn can Alabama and LSU can Louisiana. This is a state in which 75% of the population is concentrated in the metro Atlanta area and the vast majority of that population was not born or raised here. What state loyalty exists does so mostly in middle and south GA and in parts of North GA (and in that case, the topography lends itself more to UTk feeling like home as compared to UGA).

Out of curiosity...no trolling here....if Malzahn does not win a National Title by 2016 will you want him to be fired? You came close this past season. Richt came close in 2012. Two years removed from Richt's near miss you think we should fire him. So, if Malzahn does not win one by 2016 will you be ready to fire him? Don't bring up Chizik, because we aren't talking about Chizik.

I agree he wouldn't still have his job at Auburn. But it isn't because of the suggestion made by the OP. Auburn has its share of upper level dysfunction and if Richt were at Auburn some of his down seasons would have been worse. Tubs wasn't fired he walked away per his contract because we talked to another coach behind his back a second time.

For better or worse Auburn is a hard place to stay and be above average. The thinking is in grained in our state and as such is also a part of our program.
