hell no, y'all won't be down forever.

Unless your name is MS State, no way should you get KY & Vandy as 2 of your 3 perm games....

Not bashing, but why do you have Arky listed and not Ole Miss for LSU. They are our most traditional rival.

Upvoted. This looks great. The only downside is that the conference wouldn't have true "divisions" and therefore couldn't have an SEC Championship game.

You can still have a conference champ game, just seed the top 2 teams.

Rivalries could be made into OOC games if teams truly want them. The SEC's rankings have for the most part been accurate at year's end. Auburn could schedule Georgia as an OOC game the years that Georgia doesn't rotate onto Auburn's schedule, and that would boost Auburn's strength of schedule.

I agree with this. This is also a great argument for the 6-2 schedule.

Also, I'd like to thank all of ya'll for making this my most successful non-Troll SEC Rant thread this year!

A case for the 3-5 SEC schedule
I heard this schedule suggested in another thread. I thought it was pretty intriguing, so I wanted to explore it further. The concept of this schedule is that each team gets 3 permanent rivals and plays 5 rotating conference games, meaning that every team plays every other team home and away every 4 years. Let's take a look at who those rivals would be in this scenario.

Alabama: Auburn, Tennessee, LSU
Auburn: Alabama, Georgia, Florida
Ole Miss: Miss State, LSU, Vanderbilt
Miss State: Ole Miss, Kentucky, Arkansas
LSU: Texas A&M, Alabama, Ole Miss
Texas A&M: LSU, Arkansas, Mizzou
Arkansas: Texas A&M, Mizzou, Miss State

Florida: Georgia, South Carolina, Auburn
Georgia: Florida, Auburn, South Carolina
Tennessee: Alabama, Vanderbilt, South Carolina
Vanderbilt: Tennessee, Ole Miss, Kentucky
Kentucky: Mizzou, Vanderbilt, Miss State
Mizzou: Texas A&M, Arkansas, Kentucky
South Carolina: Florida, Georgia, Tennessee

Feel free to post your own versions of everyone's 3 rivals as well to comment on the plan in general.

While I admire your interest in this, it won't fly because there are too many "unknowns" as to how we can compare teams to each other when they have 1 or 2 (@ most) teams in common with anybody else.
ex: Auburn & Ole Miss go 3-0 against their selected teams. Who gets ranked higher than the other & why?

Also, how do you determine who gets to play in the CG since your 3 teams are from both divisions?

Having 2 games against rotating division teams would mean that every 6 years, a team would play all of the opposite division teams home and away. I think most fans are in favor of this, but there seems to be resistance from some ADs and coaches in the SEC for adding another conference game.

HOW do you grow the conference, but NOT the conf. games?

In the 2-6 schedule,
LSU: Ole Miss, Texas A&M
Alabama: Auburn, Tennessee
Auburn: Alabama, Georgia
Arkansas: Mizzou, Texas A&M
Ole Miss: Miss State, LSU
Miss State: Ole Miss, Vanderbilt
Texas A&M: Arkansas, LSU

Florida: Georgia, South Carolina
Georgia: Florida, Auburn
South Carolina: Florida, ?
Tennessee: Alabama, Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt: Tennessee, Miss State
Kentucky: ??
Mizzou: Arkansas, ?

SC: Florida, Kentucky
Kentucky: SC, Mizz (only option)
Mizz: Arkansas, Kentucky

& what's wrong with keeping rivalries a conf. game?
