Eh a Tennessee kid chose Tennesssee. I wouldn't call it "dropping the ball" for UGA
Ball went to high school with Malone's mom and was a friend of the family. Wish I could see it the way you do, but that is a hard one to lose consider how totally out of the picture we were when he committed.

I've said on this kid before OSU insiders get the feel he likes OSU a lot
I feel like every time I see a kid being recruited by OSU and SEC schools, I always see the OSU "insiders" being confident, or saying he is very high on OSU. Do they just pump sunshine 24/7 to the fans?

I'm curious, fans of teams involved here, that are not UGA as I already know our viewpoint, throw out your best guess at Sweat's top 2-3 in order.

Ohio State seems to be winning their fair share of those recruiting battle so yeah, if the insiders have confidence then so do I.

Just asking, do the "insiders" constantly put out good vibes about big recruits as long as OSU is somewhere in the mix? Don't take this as an insult. Like I said, they seem "confident" a lot about a lot of recruits.

Well OSU insiders are only going to pump up the guys we have a chance with, so obviously those are the kids that you are going to hear about OSU thinking they have a good shot with. For example, OSU was like 100% of the CBs for Beckner when the process started, but we haven't been involved very much in his recruitment lately, so OSU insiders haven't said a word. We felt good about Settle originally, but something happened about 4-5 months ago (Vrabel leaving OSU may have helped OSU get back in with Settle a bit), and there isn't much OSU chatter about him.
I mean when there is a kid on the SEC recruiting board, and people ask who feels good, and OSU insiders who know wayyyyy more than most of us do say they feel good, I repeat it like a parrot

There are plenty that I see that they say "forget about him" on.
Who knows really? You're depending on information from a 16-18 year old kid who's flavor of the day is just that.
I think the "insiders" for any school pump sunshine up peoples asses when it comes to recruits.

Va Tech as leader probably, UGA/Tennessee as 2a/2b.

I'd say from what I've heard most recently
1. UGA
2. VT
3. OSU
I honestly haven't heard much of him going to Tennessee, but that is probably similar to what Tennessee are hearing about his chances of going to OSU

I wont take vt being his leader seriously the way bama and fsu stole there top 2 d-line targets last year. Recruting is a dirty game and beamer wont play it

What have you heard that puts us at 2b? I haven't heard UT brought up very much. What are our actual chances of landing this guy?

He's given us an unofficial around the same time he visited UGA. Also with Tuttle close to a Vol Lock it would be pretty attractive to commit with two 5 star Defensive tackles on board. Sweat is very hard to read though and obviously I'm wearing orange tinted glasses.
I haven't heard much about Ohio State, but I kind of like Tennessee's chances head to head recruiting against CUM. Aside from Von Bell, which is completely on Dooley who completely neglected his recruitment, (Butch just couldn't make up enough ground in less than two months). He's done pretty well against Meyer. Jefferson is also deciding between Ohio State and Tennessee and it's looking like he's probably going to go Tennessee as well.
If Tennessee can pull a few upsets this season we'll look a lot more attractive too.

This is his first recruiting cycle at a school with a good football pedigree. There's going to be a recruiting bump but as you said the results on the field will influence future recruiting. We've seen how far Hoke's recruiting has fallen off at Michigan after the honeymoon phase and dismal performance on the field.
As to going head to head against Meyer I'll be worried when and if he starts getting top Ohio kids with Ohio State OFFERS which I don't see happening.

I wonder how much of the UGA stuff is from Pruitt perhaps??
Pruitt excels at landing the big guys out of state. Combine that with our staff in general doing a superb job of recruiting OOS (Gurley, Marshall, Theus, Dawson, Murray, Terry, etc.) and I like our chances in that respect. Plus, UGA has a lot to tout in the way of production at the Rush end and linebacker positions over the years (Pollack, Marcus Howard, Charles Johnson, Quentin Moses, Jarvis Jones, etc.). I think we'll hold ou own to the end in his recruitment. It's just going to come down to whether or not he and his family feel comfortable with him going out of state to play and where they feel most at home (in that regard, UGA has also done a spectacular job in recent years).

My only hope for UT landing Sweat is that he keeps everything on lockdown. If I had to guess, I would say VaTech; however, any of those schools in the top 5 have a shot.

That's fine by me. As long as Tennessee can keep the wall up around Tennessee, and cherry pick from Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, and Virginia we'll be fine.

Exactly. Protect the borders and cherry pick when you can.

Stay away from our instate prospects. It seems like Urban has keyed in on a few Tennessee boys the last few years.

OSU keyed in on and took advantage of the previous staff's ineptness. That's not a problem anymore.
