Wait, I can't discern people's motivations?

But...

quote:

These people are doing what they do for exactly same reasons you do what you do when you give your tremendous wealth to charity.

You can?

The main point here is for people to think about their actions. I have no doubt that a lot of these trips to foreign places are largely motivated by the desire for adventure. I see it. I have no reservation saying that a chubby marketing rep who can barely pay her bills going to Honduras is at least half about having an interesting experience. At least half. And I have no reservations in saying that the money she spent traveling might have been better sent as a gift to meet other specific needs in that community.

Anyway, I made somebody here think. And I'm pretty sure I made RogerTheShrubber google.

Christians are bad, stupid people through and through

Perhaps I missed that memo. Katrina-response from local churches here gets them a lifelong pass on the good-guy scale, for me. They do a lot of good local stuff, too, of course. But Katrina was a big deal to me. They were heroes, no other way to put it. None of that will apparently sway the OP. He has a pretty big bone stuck up his arse for some reason.

What the hell is wrong with people trying to help other people? Does that really need an efficiency study? I can only guess that you have some deep hate for Christians. That's the only thing that makes sense to me.

Hey, I heard those kids in Honduras need band aids. I'm going to buy a big box of band aids, then drop $3000 on travel, fly down there and deliver them some god damned band-aids!! I HELPED!

What is wrong with people HELPING????

Right?

And no, I don't hate Christians, and I don't denigrate Christians.

Why the frick do you care about how people volunteer their time? People sitting on their couch judging others for volunteering to go into a poor community and attempt to improve it is now a bad thing because people are proud of this servitude. fricking shite humans suck dick.

Just illustrating the tone that "charity doesn't need an efficiency study". WTF is wrong with flying a carton of band aids to Honduras? Do you hate Christians and charity?

Hate to repeat myself, but:

You need to give this one up. You're gonna lose.

I get that this won't sink in with you. Just wanted to remind you you're in for a shitstorm if you pursue this. You're just wrong on this one.

So you can't think of a better use of my charity $ than my spending $3003 to hand-deliver one box of band aids to the children of Honduras?

Every little bit helps.

That was a stupid analogy, illustrative of nothing cogent

Sure I can. I just don't get why you're so bent out of shape about it. You seem to have a problem with your Facebook friends who are telling their other FB friends how they spent their summer. I don't get that.

If you believe the Save the Children ads I just condemned a child to death by drinking that last shot of Bourbon instead of sending them the money. Does that make me somehow bad? No? Then WTF is your deal with mission trips?

Its valid, because you see the absurdity and wastefulness of a person seeing a need for band-aids and flying them down there personally to snap selfies.

I see wastefulness in touristy mission trips.

I'm not saying all or most missionaries do this. I stand by the point that this type of behavior exists and is growing.

wmr lub da kids. I just want them to get that travel $ unless a person is down there building them housing or digging wells or fixing their teeth.

I'm very familiar with his threads which is why I was wondering his age. His obsession with flying band-aids for 3k makes me question both sanity and age.

It would be valid if that were what was actually happening.

It is not what is happening, therefore it is invalid.

And you would be correct.

Completely disagree.

I'm not saying everyone who's ever gone on a mission trip is as pure as the driven snow (that's unrealistic), but your assertion that there's this rising demographic that's solely interested in these trips to deliver band-aids and snap selfies is, quite frankly, preposterous.
