You leave our redneck Jews alone brother! We have 3 synagogues plus a Chabad center - not too shabby for a place so small. And Jews have been here for ages. Besides, I think I might technically be one because I have a consistent matrilineal line that is sounding more and more Jewish given the surnames - there's even a Cohen line. And it's that line that makes one a Jew so I may well be a Jewish Christian which would make me bad at both but I already knew that much.

Thank God, AD Hamilton is gone.

He was abysmally bad at hiring coaches, but great at building facilities. Tennessee is the only school in the SEC...and maybe the country...with a 100,000+ seat football stadium and a 25,000+ seat basketball arena. And the other sports all have top-notch facilities as well.

He did a good job upgrading TBA and funding our new state of the art football facility but we already had a 100k football stadium and 25k arena when he took over in 2003.

That's why I edited to mention your other facilities. There's really not a bad facility at UT, in any sport.

Yeah, but he spent all the reserves getting it done. That said, the new football complex is unreal.

It's really unreal how low our bank account was after the upgrades. The coaching buyouts didn't help either.

As somebody who went 45-5 while I was at UT, that's a place I care a lot about and I'm just glad that there's somebody in charge again who gets it and who wants to be there and take the program back to where it was and where it should be. For Coach Jones to embrace us and bring us back in is a big deal for us."

The talk that it is a foregone conclusion that Jones is going to be successful is misguided, IMO.

Dooley walked off with $10 million (including buyout) in 3 years while being totally incompetent. Where can I sign up? you just can't lose in this profession.

Yep. Joker took UK for millions of dollars and set the program back 10 years. Where do I sign up.

nd that Butch Jones is going to save the program and bring it back to where it once was. But Butch Jones' track record isn't/wasn't any more or less impressive than what Derek Dooley's was, before he got to UT.

Well you are an ignorant son of a bitch

quote:

Sparty, you don't know the half of it. I know an older pro and UT player that had a lot of direct experience with Dooley. This is one of happiest go-lucky guys you'll ever meet - just an all around great person and fun loving person. I've known the guy most of my life and never heard him speak ill of anyone with exception of Dooley who he absolutely couldn't stand (and remember he came into contact with him a lot). The thing is he's not alone. Wilhoit, for example, can't stand Dooley. Remember our kicking woes under Dooley? Not only did he tell Wihoit to frick off, he told Palardy "not to screw it up" whenever he'd go out there to kick. No wonder Palardy sucked under Dooley only to turn around and turn have an award winning year under Jones and make an NFL team. And there are several other 'names' you might recognize that made it no secret how Dooley treated them (Dooley treated everyone poorly but he basically locked out our player alums from being able to freely visit). It was worse than the people realize. The man was arrogant, pompous, and an arse. He just had a better public image than Kiffin did but honestly Kiffin treated people better despite also being a pompous arse.

No matter how many times I read it I still find it unbelievable. It is shocking that someone could be so stupid

Exactly. He just went 5-7 and has a very good chance of doing it again in 2014.

Butch Jones is a good coach and a hard worker... I still think UT fires him in 3 years but he will definitely have a solid foundation laid for his replacement... Maybe his replacement will even beat Florida once or twice.

Hamilton thought you could print money in Knoxville.

UT paid the price for that.

Well money troubles should get a lot better after we get our check from the SEC Network.

As for Butch, I think he gets plenty of time. We're not seeing the red flags with him that we saw with Dooley and even if he goes 5-7 again this year, which I don't think will happen his seat won't get hot unless 2015 is bad.

UK and UT should really be able to sue them for damages/gross incompetence, negligence etc.

Kiffin set us back years but Dooley set us back for a much longer time. Had we not lucked into Jones there's really no telling just how long and even he has still been set back tons.

As to those who think Jones will get fired and/or can't coach... Simply put you're idiots who have no idea what Dooley left behind. Y'all think we're exaggerating but if anything we're understating the damage done by Dooley. Jones has won everywhere he's been, he's widely known as a good coach by those who analyze coaches and that was long before we knew who the hell he was, he's recruiting like a mad man and recruiting issues were a big problem under Kiffin and even worse under Dooley but again you haven't paid much attention to the program nor do you appear aware of the extreme talent deficits we've had because of them or the fact they left no players - Dooley even failed to recruit olinemen knowing damn well his needed to be replaced in the not so distant future (NOT. ONE.),the only thing he brought to the table was landing some fantastic WRs, his coordinators couldn't stand him and left in droves early on, he isolated everyone including his own players. He even failed to file standard APR waivers - the type that get approved because the NCAA considers them excusable and put us in a position to where before that was fixed we faced post-season bans. No one on his team or even at the start of last season could squat 600 - NOT ONE. They admitted that they signed their names into workouts and left because he allowed it and that they regretted it.

Jones faces changing the culture, working against all those deficits and problems, and has rapidly changed things. You write off playing UGA to OT and losing on a play that could've easily been ruled a TD (originally was) and upsetting USC but you forget that we had no fricking talent or business even keeping up. THAT was on Jones. He's produced a sea-change in attitude - players, fans, students - everyone.

The jury is out on him and yes we could go 5-7 again but we think 6-6 (THAT is our sad reality - a reality we and Jones were left to deal with - why you can see the possibility of 5-7 yet not wrap your brain around WHY we are where we are is mind boggling - ignorance and homerism at its finest). And to pretend we don't several institutional advantages that will help us along the way is absurd.

He may or may not turn out to be great but make no mistake about it - he's already 'good' when you realize everything he's accomplished on and off the field and in recruiting.

He sure as hell won't be out in 3. And I say all of this as someone who never liked or believed in either Kiffin or Dooley.
