How has criminalization of owning a firearm worked in Chicago? People will always break the law if they already do. It's about not punishing those who are hurting no one
The war on drugs causes more murders, kidnappings, conflicts in general
It's fricking ridiculous

Your point? I am not saying we should make it legal, are yoU?

As it should be. That directly puts others in a shitty risk. SMD
And yet, people still do it.

How many kids die on the corner of a street trying to make a living slanging as opposed to those who actually die by another individual under the influence of their substances?
How many groups hold power simply because the ineptness of the government to admit their fricking wrong about the continued prohibition?

Again that argument? Since criminalizing something does not stop people from doing it...why criminalize anything? THAT is the argument Auburn posters want to hang their hat on?
And you call me dumb?

Arguing that driving while under the influence of Marijuana is silly, but arguing to keep a substance banned because of some erroneous fear everyone will be driving and smoking is a pot meet kettle scenario. No pun intended.

Not as many as are dying on our highways from drunk and impaired drivers, I would guess.

Because some things are actually dangerous. I saw a fat guy shoot someone once. I doubt we will make Fried Chicken illegal.

(Pun might not have been intended, but it was a good one, nonetheless! )

Possibly. But look at how alcohol related deaths on our highways have climbed and you can probably draw a correlation, don't you think? I have had several friends killed by drunk drivers over the years. Yes, I admit...I am biased based on this.

What are you, 12? Lobbyists can get anything criminalized. It's illegal to be a florist in Louisiana without a license.
I'm sure that has a public safety reason

I am sorry for your loss. Your bias is understandable, but it doesn't change that your info is incorrect. DUI deaths are declining and distracted driving deaths are rising.

Well, being fat probably did not cause him to shoot the other person. (Unless the other guy called him Bert, or something!)
Driving under the influence of pot probably will cause a few deaths. Cause and effect.
Seems most of the college kids these days that get caught with pot are driving or in a car with others smoking while driving, though.

Come on beaver. let's not resort to calling names. Let's at least respectfully disagree with each other.

Can you name one thing a lobbyist has gotten criminalized?

Which lobby made this happen?

For most under the legal drinking age getting marijuana is easier than alcohol. I have little doubt some will make the choice to DUI of marijuana. Still doesn't justify its prohibition. Education about using it appropriately would come with its legal sale. Much like the say "No" to drinking and driving campaigns that successfully lowered DUI issues.

I am with you. Let's ban the legal use of cell phones anywhere so we can prevent distracted driving deaths.
Actually using a cell phone while driving is illegal in many states. And it should be. You guys have already pointed out that driving distractions are causing many deaths on the roads.

The point is it would be illegal to DUI of marijuana. Why is marijuana illegal everywhere else? If cell phones are killing more people than substance abuse/driving then lets just make having a cell phone illegal. It gives prospective to the argument against legalization of marijuana.

Haven't checked the stats lately, I must admit. But there are tens of thousands of drunk driving fatalities every year. people simply do not use good judgement. Look at the thread we are talking in right now. A perfect example.
I should apologize, as I have hi-jacked this thread. But congrats on Mincey doing what it takes to clear his name.
And don't lump all Georgia fans with me. most of the guys on our board feel the same as you.
