Really? I thought you could count back until your class filled up. So since we enrolled 15 out of a 22 max class (I think thats right because of the penalties we had) then we could count back 7.
I could be wrong though. Maybe they changed the rule or something

I thought the same thing, but then I brought it up to someone at 247 and they said a school can only count back 5. We should probably independently look at it before other people read what we write and think it's accurate.

This might shed little light on things. (not the counting back though.)

Cliff notes version?
If this new 5 limit rule is in effect, talking about putting early enrollees on the previous class ... then there are a couple of programs who must not have got the memo.
Who was it that signed 32 last year?

Joe Blue still has a chance to make it in. His appeal is being heard today and Spurrier is going to it. We should know more this afternoon. I think this is part of the process where Spurrier can request an exemption/appeal from Pres Pastides IF the player was cleared by the NCAA, but denied by SC Admissions.
Blue's HS Coach said he's received over a half a dozen calls from coaches at other schools that said they could take Blue if he isn't going to SC.
Some of his other offers were:
Auburn
Ga Tech
Florida
Southern Cal
Va Tech

Basically everything we wrote in the recruiting thread. Green, Lammons are in. Blue and Smalls are not. Blue has an unexpected hiccup, they did an appeal. We'll know today.

I looked at the NCAA rule book online, posted some links in the '15 recruiting thread. I couldn't find anything about a 5 limit, so since I didn't find it written, I don't think it exists.

Joe Blue's appeal was denied today by the USC admissions committee. A real shame for Blue: he was denied initially by the committee, and on appeal was denied again. Don't know the reasons for the denial but have to think that if they got to review the situation twice and deny his admittance both times, it has to be substantial enough to warrant it.
The shameful thing is, prior to the 1st committee review it was reported that Blue had passed admissions, and prior to this 2nd review on appeal it was reported that Blue had a real good chance of winning the appeal. Somewhere someone was either being misled seriously on his chances, or someone was building up whatever chances Blue had to unrealistic proportions (his HS coach??). Hope this doesn't hurt USC's standing with the Dillon HS staff for future prospects.....

This sucked for Blue, but if Spurrier couldn't get him in with a Pastides approval, then something was seriously messed up with his transcript.

Exactly.
Hate that we may not enroll him eventually, but I'd rather be safe than sorry in that regard.

We are a university first and a football team second. I will always defer to the admissions office in cases like this, despite what others may think. And both of my parents worked for USC, in academic and administrative roles.
