War Eagle is said to have come from a civil war era engagement. Roll Tide came from a 1930's era sports writer who coined the term I believe. So WE is older as far as I know.
In the early days of college football "roll" was used much like "go" is now. It just stuck with bama

I remember hearing War Damn Eagle back in the early 1990s.

Bodda Getta has been around since the mid 1960s and it has "War Damn Eagle" in it. I imagine that the phrasing is as old as "War Eagle" itself, which goes way back to the 1890s/early 1900s.

Never really heard this until Harvey Updyke said it... Since then, it's gone viral.

My Auburn buddy never even says eagle. He just says War Damn, War Damn son. But he has a pretty laid back accent and it just sounds so right when he say it
