Sumlin had as many wins in his worst season at Houston as Gene Chizik did his entire tenure at Iowa State. He also had as many wins against Big 12 Opponents in one season at Houston as Chizik did his entire tenure at Iowa State

Horrible comparison.

Gene Chizic was at Iowa stat in 07 and 08
the big 12 had 4 top 25 teams in 2007
the big 12 had 5 in the top 14 in 2008

conference USA had 0 in both years.

As another poster stated. Fools gold, and you guys went all in on it.

At Houston (a mid major) Sumlin won more games against BCS conference competition in BOTH 2009 and 2011 alone than Chizik did in 2007, 2008 and 2012 COMBINED at BCS conference schools.

Read that a couple of times, it takes a while to sink it. Its almost unfathomable.

I'm not here to do a dick measuring contest with who has/had the shittiest coach. The fact is, Chizik won the SEC/BSCNC, had top-5 classes, won 3 straight bowl games, and then went winless in the SEC (after a string of disciplinary issues). All I was saying is things will not get better under Sumlin. Hopefully you guys can see that and prepare for the fall.

2012: never compete in the SEC, JFF will get killed running that much

2013: JFF is distracted, can't do it again

2014: you bought fools gold, Sumlin has lost control

Hell no. Keep him around as long as you like. Proven recruiter but as a developer of that talent, he has a long way to go. He may get there one day but this year is gonna be a rough one.

And finished tied for 2nd in the SEC West

Finished 4th in the SEC West

He has, anyone can see it, I know AU fans did with Chizik. It got so bad they hired private security guards to corral the players, and then AU went winless.

Also, JFF is gone.

ETA: I'm not flaming you guys, or at least I'm not trying to. It just seems nearly identical to the situation AU went through.

Sumlin isn't Chizik. You hired a shitty coach who lucked out with a once in a lifetime player. Don't compare him to our coach who was a proven winner in smaller conferences with huge recruiting ties to Texas.

Sumlin had JFF. Regardless, he really didn't do that much at Houston. I'm not defending Chizik, he sucked.

Jesus you Aggies are defensive about Sumlin.

ETA: I didn't hire shite, but I'm glad how it turned out. I think Malzahn is going to do well.

proven winner

How do you define proven?

He couldn't win 1 CUSA title. Why? Points all year but no D. (Sound familiar?)

Ags: why make him the second highest paid coach behind saban and this guy couldn't even win a conference USA title.

you think he will take the SEC? Seriously though......

Aside from beating up on inferior teams while Sumlin was at Houston, this sounds exactly like Chizik.

7 pts for arrest unless felony then another 3 plus 4 for being a starter total 14 points

Inferior teams such as top 5 Oklahoma State in Stillwater.

Here, guess this SEC coach from his first head coaching record at a far lesser school in a weaker conference:

Year 1: 4-7
Year 2: 8-5
Year 3: 9-4
Year 4: 7-5

1-2 record in bowl games

Never finished better than 3rd in his division while at this school. No conference titles.
