Natchez, Mississippi was the wealthiest city in the US at one time.

I feel like Starkville's biggest issue is it's almost a commuter school... Way too many students high tail it out of town if it isn't a football or baseball weekend and that makes it very difficult for new bars and restaurants to sustain themselves and meet their sales goals.

ETA: my friends at State didn't do that and I assume most of the posters on this board didn't/don't do that... But way too many of the GDIs do.

Can't believe I typed GDIs

Ocean Springs, MS is the nicest town or city in the state.

I think Starkville's problem is there is too much disagreement in the city on whether it wants to be a true college town or not. I'd put Natchez and Ocean Springs up there for MS.

I live here. Oxford is nice but Ocean Springs has it beat easily. Oxford is probably 2nd though.

I mean it's hard to beat a town on the beach. Would you rather spend a week in Austin, Athens, Boulder, or Hawaii?

In Tennessee, undoubtedly Roan Mountain... Epic views, best part of Appalachian Trail in my opinion

I grew up in Johnson City and love both J-Boro and Roan Mountain.

Natchez is a victim of being from old money. No new businesses worth a shite are there. It is pretty much a ghetto now except for the downtown part. The historic areas are beautiful and the history of Natchez is undeniable. The city cemetery is the most beautiful in the state.

If you think Savannah is not a "town" but a "small city", you must be from the backwoods. I'm sorry but the ONLY CITY in Georgia is ATL.... That's the only city.
