yes, if coker just doesn't make mistakes, we'll be all right ...
but wouldn't it be great, given the amount of talent on offense, if coker can run the offense and use all those horses? ... the defense under saban will always be stout, though it'll ebb/flow a bit from year to year ... i'd just like to see a 49-0 blowout of everybody we play, given the talent we have ...
that's unrealistic, i know ... but damn ... there's some serious talent on offense ...

Yeah...and if we had a veteran foursome like Barron, Woodall, Arenas, and Jackson to go with those unknowns...like we had when Johnson was being developed...I'd feel a lot better.
I'll always be puzzled, in light of how stacked we are, the continued inability to recruit and/or develop a kicker.

I don't think CBW necessarily has anything to do with the recruitment/development of kickers. CNS has said that all the coaches coach STs with one just getting the title of "coordinator". It's a group effort not just one guy

It's baffling. We get these All-American kickers out of high school and when they come to UA, they forget how to kick.

Then we bring in walk-ons like Shelly and Mandel and they develop over time into solid, if not great, kickers. Hard to figure.

Getting kickers out of high school (who typically kick off a block, 1" or 2" high) to come into college and the have to kick off the ground is not a easy thing to do. I am really confused that Saban, as smart of a man he is, doesn't go the JUCO route for kickers. Those guys are PROVEN at kicking off the ground. There is no question there.
Plus a lot of blame gets put on the kicker when a bad snap or hold is just as important.
I think the freshman last year will be a really good one for us by next year...just like it took Leigh Tiffin a year before he became really good!

I have no idea. It could be CBW but could just as easily be one of the other coaches. During practices, I think they work by themselves the majority of the time. Maybe have a non-coaching staff member or GA
As for JUCO, I don't recall many good kicking prospects coming from those ranks

Until the NCAA increases the size of coaching staffs it isn't going to change. You can't "waste" a staff slot on kickers.

Actually, ultimately, the responsibility is on just one guy...Nick Saban. Yeah, I get that Bobby Williams may be the coach assigned to that area, but it is Saban's responsibility. End of story. Like a lot of people, I may occasionally have a gripe with an assistant or a coordinator, but if it becomes a continued problem, I don't hold the assistant responsible in my mind. Ultimately, it's on Saban.
And in this case, from the point it became painfully obvious in the 9-6 game that Cade Foster was not a kicker that could be relied on in a big game, Saban did nothing to improve at the position. And that, as much as anything else, in my humble opinion, is what cost us a spot in the BCSCG last year. And the performance in the A-Day game this year, given how we ended last year, was downright depressing.

No college team that I'm aware of has a dedicated staff member that coaches the kickers on things like technique, not enough coaching positions available. My understanding is that most kickers work with a special kicking coach in the off season, but there is basically no coaching given by the staff to them on the act of kicking during the season. The special teams coordinator pretty much only works on kick coverages and blocking schemes for returns

In the original post, it mentioned that currently we have 83 players. By players, that means players who we think are on scholarship. However, it is actually 85. My questions is if, Bo and Montel make it in, who goes? It is kind of late at this point.
