Mississippi and Alabama are like brother states but at the same time are rivals, we play each other in the high school all star games, and each side has a thing about repping their state... Louisiana kids never come to Alabama until it's time to play college football they don't have that brother rival thing Alabama and Mississippi have. If Mississippi teams were good that would be a bigger rival game than Tennessee

Lsu gets a kid out Mississippi probably 2 out of 3 years or 2 out of 4 years. It's not uncommon, but it's not regular.
I'm sure you're right. It just seemed like it was more often to me than that. No biggie I don't begrudge the Mississippi schools keep their talent instate since they have to split them between two SEC schools.

Devin Voorhies is a pretty good Mississippi recruit, Jalen Collins came from Mississippi as well. But, yes, generally we stay in Texas and Louisiana.
I'm guessing Stevan Ridley has got to be the best guy we've got from Mississippi in recent years.

There are far less elite guys year in and year out in Mississippi. As for Alabama's effort, we only have one staff member with ties and he just came back to Alabama this year. Bo Davis is from Magee.

Fwiw, I believe Voorhies actually lived in La and commuted to Woodville. For all intents and purposes, several counties down there are basically La -- they just don't have elite recruits very often!

What are you talking about? We pull a recruit or two out of Mississippi pretty much every year. Don't Alabama and Auburn do likewise?
Occasionally, but a lot less lately.

Instead of this
I think you really mean if Mississippi had just one SEC school.
If MSU and Ole Miss united, naturally we would be a much bigger player in the SEC.

And if the Alabama state legislature didn't separate the "blue collar" and "white collar" degrees, and there was just on "Alabama school" ?

Alabama can facilitate two SEC powers due to being almost twice the size of MS population wise. Thus more talent instate as well as natural recruiting inroads into Ga. for Auburn as well as both schools being able to go national due to their respective recruiting prowess. For a state like Mississippi to contend, it can't afford to have two schools who love to tear each other down.

I agree Mississippi should have one team...my vote is for Southern Miss to be that one team.

That makes sense. I mean why wouldn't we put the 1 main school in the absolute worst area, with absolutely no facilities.

The MS schools can usually offer quicker playing time instead of being buried in the depth chart

I think the fact that Louisiana has an NFL team also plays into this. So many kids grow up diehard Saints fan but not LSU fans. In Mississippi/Alabama, your college team is first and NFL second if you even have a favorite NFL team.

Louisiana produces more 4 and 5 star recruits than does Mississippi. I'd say LSU typically takes 15-18 instate and another 8-10 from Tx, La, Ms, Ga, Fla or another state.
Of those 15-18 instate recruits you have certain needs that absolutely must be filled. Plus you have other recruits that are "higher risk" a la Lacy that you might choose to not recruit and other top flight guys that you flat out miss on.
The ones you miss on aren't going to end up at Tulane, ULL or LaTech. They're going to Alabama, Ok, UT, AU or aTm.
It's a numbers game. Louisiana is more similar to Florida when it comes to recruits. There's a ton of quality recruits per capita.

Let's look at the facts. UA is as close to Meridian and about as close to south Mississippi as MSU and Ole Flask are. Bama has better facilities, a far better record and the best coach in college football today.
We get commitments or make a big impression on a Mississippi kid, then one visit to a Mississippi school and bye bye. Now explain to me the process where that happens.
We know for a fact they bid on Cam Newton at MSU. And did not suffer any consequences to speak of.
So we know they will pay for a player.
Comments?

You are a stupid frick. So MSU "bid" on Cam then turned around and reported ourselves to the SEC, which didn't do anything, so we then reported ourselves to the NCAA? Is that what you are sAying?
