He texted me saying he just put it up kinda laughing about it without thinking. I think he felt bad but he didnt mean anything. He just did it without thinking & considering everything involved that he was talkin about. Poor taxman. He probably will miss the season.

Everything you said, + all the OM posters RAing him because it is kind of embarrassing since they puffed up about it so much..
It's more about bad exposure for OM. None of them honestly give a frick about that patient. It's sad it happened like it did but that's the real reason for all the RA's..

I didn't RA him but the thread was in bad taste much like your post just now.
I just reread your post and it's just as bad as his. GFY.

I've never RA'd anyone that I can remember, and generally think RAing is for pussies

More crying...
I don't RA people either.

What's so ridiculous about all this is that some dumbass woman with a baby in Jackson was offered FREE experimental treatments for her baby with HIV and she routinely missed FREE doctor's appointments... Knowing good and damn well she could've called UMC a few days ahead of each dr appointment and they'd arrange to have her picked up... But instead her little girl's virus will eventually develop into full blown AIDs... She's probably a Southern Miss fan.

All state/om stuff aside it is really sad for exactly the reasons you just mentioned.
TBH the mother should be strung the frick up, and she is definitely not suitable to parent children.

I wonder if they can charge her with some kind of child abuse because that's exactly what this was.

Why in the frick can you have kids with aids? They should cut your ovaries out the second you test positive.

One of the doctors who treated the child came to a conference I was attending and explained it pretty well.
OBReb6 said it exactly how she did. She started the talk, 'we haven't cured AIDs' and then talked about this specific child's case saying over and over that it might return.
The basis of the idea was the finding was that the Tcells of a child who has HIV might stop storing the virus if the treatment occurs in a certain timespan. I kind of understood it as the tcells have a master copy which they mimic. And early on this isn't set. And as long as the master copy doesn't become infected the HIV might die out. And a child might have a better chance of this happening if treated directly after birth. Because that is when they are exposed (if the mother hasn't been taking the right medicine during pregnancy).
Either way. The doctors never claimed it to be a cure. They said it was a special case that might lead towards a better understanding, but that was all.
The media blew it up. It's in bad taste to disparage UMMC because they really are doing great work. Whether this child is cured or not.

I need someone to explain to me how AIDS goes into remission. Seems like something you have or you don't. That probably isn't the case but my knowledge of AIDS is basically nonexistent.
Similar to how cancer goes into remission.
You can have AIDS for years and it not affect your health. It's just there but doesn't do anything...but when it comes out of remission it starts destroying your immune system.

This is off topic but did anyone just see the picture Turner posted of the "D-Block cookout"? Holy fricking balls Chris Jones is a monster. I didn't know traps grew that big. Kid is built like a damn linebacker, not DT, can't wait for him to wreck things this fall.

They do remarkable research at UMMC. Even though the girl is in remission it's still important to understand that these developments are a step in the right direction as far as developing a better understanding of HIV goes.
