All of that and not one mention of Tulane or the fact that they were an original SEC member and their precipitous nosedive around the mid to late 50's?

I completely forgot about the ol tiger rag. That rivalry is worth a mention but nothing more because it is basically nonexistent now

ETA: this is why I consulted the rant/LSU fans. Good input Ole Geauxt/DS

A thread about historical notes suddenly changes to "since 2000".

I stated in the OP that LSU/Alabama rivalry really took off in early 2010's

In your defense, Bama is 3-2 since 2010, winning the big one.

It's amazing how many people are ignorant of this.
LSU and Tulane played nearly every year from 1893-1996. I'm not sure how many SEC fans today are even aware that Tulane was in the conference until 1966.
Tulane was the in-state rival and Ole Miss was the border-rival. Tulane didn't have the chest to stay in the SEC and Ole Miss didn't have the chest to stay relevant.

I always figured it was because LSU was just kind of stuck in the middle of more meaningful rivalries, in-between the heated SWC/Big 8 Midwestern rivalries (Texas/Oklahoma, for instance) to the west and the Dixieland rivalries (AU/UGA, Bama/UT, OM/MSU, etc) to the east. LSU was just kind of...there, and with a few notable exceptions, weren't reliably great enough to draw attention to themselves in place of other established rivals.

I have been aware of both of them being original SEC since my childhood : dunno :

I though Alabama fans were supposed to be great students of college football and SEC history? Oh that's right, they act like that but really they don't know shite outside of their own team
