Bandwagon Miami fans and Sidewalk Gumps are the worse...worst...whatever...

True. Most people equate sidewalk with simply "non-alum", but isn't necessarily a bad thing at all. There are varying degrees of sidewalk though, the low end being the clueless, wal-mart T shirt wearing, extremely vocal shite talkers that can only name like 2 players and have never been to a game, but still have the biggest window sticker you've ever seen.

What does what they make have to do with what kind of fan they are?
Posted on 4/24/14 at 8:43 am to WG_Dawg
The Alabama fans that have the biggest mouths but have never attended a game besides Aday are the worst IMO.

This isn't mutually exclusive at all. I feel like 90% of bandwagon fans are sidewalkers and vice versa

Bandwagon and its not even close

Where are all these bandwagon people?
In FL, I've never seen or heard of someone jumping from FSU to UF. Does this happen in other states?

I'd guess you see it a lot more with pro sports. In middle school though (yeah I know..middle school..) there was a guy I knew who in consecutive years was a Tennessee, Ohio State, and Florida State fan

But Aday is free and you get to propose on the field!

Bandwagon fans are awful.
Sidewalk fans at least tend to be part of the community and are invested in almost all aspects..... except for the fact that they never went to that school.

Jumping teams is more common in the pros.
In college you'll have the guy that runs his mouth when his team is winning, but "doesn't really follow football" when his team stinks.

I have a friend who is a Florida alum and has been a fan ever since I've known him (obnoxious Tebow supporter to boot). This past year he informed me that had also been an FSU fan since he was a kid. Convenient.
Pretty sure it doesn't work that way.

Both are good for a school even though Bandwagon fans can be annoying and embarrassing at times. They add revenue to the schools by way to ticket purchases, eyeballs for TV and merchandise purchases.
UNC football has NO SW or BW fans and we suffer as a result. UNC basketball has tons of both. SEC football tends to have many as well and that is one reason it is so successful in filling 100k stadiums and high TV ratings.

I know plenty of sidewalk fans that are season ticket holders and make 6 figures.
That's the thing. Sidewalker doesn't mean they didn't go to college; it just means they didn't go to the college they cheer for (my definition at least). Why go to UT, Bama, Auburn, etc. when you can go to Princeton, Duke, Stanford, etc.
Which is why I don't really care about sidewalk fans. If you grew up cheering for a team, who gives a shite where/if you went to college.

you have to attend games to be a fan? Damn, so many rules. Strange that it is always the Alumni crowd that has all these issues with how other fans act or what they say.

It's more of just people who care way more when it's winning. When I Iived in south GA during Floridas run I saw a lot more Gator stickers than I do now. Now when I visit family I see a ton of FSU stickers. You barely heard from those people 3 years ago

Anyone who would claim more than one team as their favorite. Kinda like using two conference mascots in a username. Its like if one has a bad year they can just like the other one better this year. WTF

Honestly I think a sidewalk is worse.
A bandwagon fan is basically a casual sports fan. They pick a team that will be engaged in the advanced stages of the season and enjoy the ride. If I was getting into a sport I didn't know much about, like golf, I would follow a player that played advanced tournaments and won them in order to get a better understanding of the sport.
A sidewalk fan is a person with no real affiliation with a program who unilaterality decides despite this lack of affiliation they are part of the program. This is MUCH MUCH worse than a bandwagon (though they can overlap) because it creates a disconnect of public representation.
Now please note, I don't think if you didn't attend a university then you are a sidewalker. I believe if you have any strong affiliation- you pay to send kids there, you have donated large amounts to the program, by marriage or family you have strong ties to the program, etc.- then you are not a sidewalker.
To me a sidewalker is a fan who picks a team due to being in the same state or area, and will refer to that team as a "we" despite these lack of affiliations or even attending a significant number of games in person.
And even then, sidewalkers aren't bad. They only get back when they feel empowered by this arbitrary affiliation and they decide to talk shite to fans of other teams who are real fans with real ties to their program.
In those cases, sidewalk fans can completely go frick themselves.
If you aren't a contributor or an alum, then frick you rubbing in my face the accomplishments of your favorite team.
